Removing a stuck Aftco Butt with heat and hammer - Part 2, Success. Summary: I sprayed various penetrating oils at the seam for 3 weeks and had heated it to 200 degrees using a heat gun with no movement at all. I destroyed three 2x4 wood clamps by hammering before changing to the 4x4 shown in this video. For this final successful attempt, I heated it to 300 degrees and I think it was the heat that finally did the trick. I say that because the white corrosion was packed in there so tightly that I don't think the fluids were penetrating. The corrosion inside the hole and on the feral looked pretty dry after it came apart. I have no idea if heating to 300 degrees is capable of damaging the blank so beware of trying this with your own stuck butt. At the end I test the blank by flexing with the thought that if it is going to break, let it break now rather then while fighting a fish. If anyone knows how much heat blanks of various materials can take before damaging please post in the comment section.
The penetrating fluids I used were WD40, Kroil, Seafoam Deep Creep, Loctite Freeze and Release, and at the end, Nano Penetrating Oil. As indicated above, however, I don't think they were helping much.
At 3:53 in the video, I accidentally catch my watch crystal with the hammer and it goes off like a puff of smoke. I've been meaning to replace that watch for years since I can no longer read the tiny numbers on the digital part... :^)
