A few pointers from a lifeguard who’s worked at my university’s pool and a summer camp: 1. You don’t need to look like Pamela Anderson to be a lifeguard! The Red Cross course is designed for someone of (almost) any shape/size to save someone of (almost) any shape/size. As long as you’re a relatively competent swimmer, you should be able to pass the test. 2. Don’t pay for a Red Cross certification class unless every job you apply to requires one. Most pools/camps will PAY YOU to get certified, so don’t pay hundreds of dollars for a class you can get paid to take. 3. Every lifeguarding job is different. Some pools/beaches/waterfronts will give you shorts and a tshirt, while others will only have you wear a guard suit. Other things like rotations, breaks, shoes, phones, in-services, etc. will depend entirely on the environment.

You don’t need to be super fit, just need to be a very competent swimmer to be a lifeguard

There is a lifeguard test to where you have to be able to tred with a certain percentage of your own bodyweight and it kind of depends on where you get your training but most places I've been to have that test

for someone in school 40 hours (a normal work week(8 hours a day for 5 days)) IS a lot sir. I'm sure your food tastes great if you're spending that much time doing it.
