There is no financial education in this country so how do you expect 18 year olds to understand things like compound interests, capitalization, inflation, wage growth, time value of money, and demand for their particular degree after graduation to be able to accurately calculate their chance of being able to pay back their loans? Most people's parents aren't even financially literate and we as a country push college as the something every teenager should aspire to. Then we're surprised when we're in a student loan crisis.

Never had student debt myself. The Navy paid 75% of my tuition for my Bachelors and Master degrees. I am currently working a second job, making $500/week, so we can pay for our daughters college in cash. She lives at home and goes to community college for the first two years. That will be $10k + books. Year 3 and 4 will be at the local state college. It will be $12k a year plus books. I made our daughter get her drivers license at 17. She commutes to college 25 miles away twice a week. We bought her an $8k car. 2013 Nissan Altima with a salvage title due to hail damage. 32k miles and fully loaded. Runs like new. I am guessing with tuition and books we will pay less than $40k for a four year education. We are paying for college not the college experience. Now just imagine if our daughter had applied for scholarships. Please don't tell me that college can't be paid for in cash. You have to be creative and patient.

As of 8/2023…804,000 student loans were forgiven equaling $39 billion of debt relief. Shame on Dave Ramsey for speaking in hyperbole and making it sound like President Biden didn’t come through on multi-levels for those with student loan debt. Freaking people out by saying they’ll need to work 5 jobs by October to start paying their debt back. Why not mention Biden’s S.A.V.E. Program, which will allow repayment based on how much you claim you earn on your taxes? Word has it, under SAVE - Most students will be paying 1/2 what they had to pay under Trump. Some who make less than $32,00/year will be asked to pay $0.00/month. Also Under the SAVE Program, interest can not compound. So don’t panic. As of August, 2023 Everyone The 10k-20k loan forgiveness program got torpedoed due to anti-lower and middle class Republican politics, Big Student loan lenders like Mohela, and the Republican conservative Supreme Court. Be careful, I use to do this. That is how I ended up with 7 credit cards and 2 personal loans. You'll have too much balance right before the interest starts so you open another card ect.

Hopefully nothing unexpected happens to you in those 12 months, CC interest rates are astronomically high!

What about during that year something happens medically to you or someone or even some drastic circumstances, what will happen then. Stay away from credit cards it is not worth the hassle and aggravation.

Only thing a disagree with is the 401K because 1st If your job is meeting is matching that instantly doubles your money, which you can take a loan from 401k on your student loans and have double the money to pay more (That’s what I did, I put in 5k in 401k. My job matched now total of 10k ….. Than asked for a loan paid on principle amount of SL) 2nd 401k lowers your yearly taxable income (more depending on your income bracket) 3rd Getting a additional gains from the fund it is invested in, now that the market is back up 🙌🏽

Bessel van der Kolk actually coined the term “body keeps the score.” I suspect Dr. Delony read his work. Excellent read on trauma.

Dave. At minute 53 you say private student loans are dischargeable in bankruptcy... they are not after the 2005 bankruptcy reform act... older loans may be, but after that not so much

The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma Paperback by Bessel van der Kolk M.D. is an Excellent book that every person should read. It's written in lay-person language so it is understandable. I suggest to all my patients to read it and learn this truth about our bodies. Great live stream team, thank you!

I’m confused as to why people at my work are having their federal student loans erased- a girl at my work had 130k erased- never made a single payment. I thought the Supreme Court ruled it unconstitutional

There are other programs that could have made her eligible for forgiveness, not the blanket forgiveness plan that was recently deemed unconstitutional.

Definitely not watching it because I have student loans (never had one in my life - paid cash for my school upgrading certificates while working full time) but the student loan debt bubble fascinates me. There's always so much blame with the loan companies, but if you don't think the schools are working with them to get their quotas you're just fooling yourself. People got sold on a dream, some did a lot of careless spending, and now they have to pay the price.

Well they've certainly never had to pay for your education. Can't even string a sentence together. Clearly never made it past the fourth grade.
