First, we focus on top 8 universities in the country. Second, we see how universities are ranked for different subjects. Third, the average undergraduate study costs are shown. Fourth, we look at postgraduate fees and finally, general living expenses in Canada are discussed.
As you can see, University of Toronto is on top of the list with an impressive world ranking of 21 in the year 2024. University of British Columbia holds a ranking of 41 and McGill University is ranked 49. There is a large gap between these 3 and the rest of universities based on world rankings in 2024. McMaster university is ranked 103, University of Alberta 109, University of Montreal 111, University of Waterloo 158 and University of Ottawa is ranked 177 based on Times Higher education rankings.
First university to look at is University of Toronto and its overall score is 88.6. The research quality achieves a respectable score of 92.8% and teaching has the lowest score of almost 77.5%. Research environment receives a score of 94.1%, which indicates availability of lab spaces and research equipment. Here is the ranking of Toronto university in different subjects. If you intend to study Clinical Medicine or health, this is a very strong university. Education and Psycology subjects are also outstanding in university of Toronto. U of T ranking for life science subject is the lowest compared to others but world ranking of 27 still suggest a high quality of learning in this subject.

However, you may consider elsewhere if the intention is to study Business & Economics due to a mediocre rank of 89 for this subject in 2024.
McMaster university holds the 4th rank in Canada based on times higher education system. This university has research quality of 93.
University of Alberta holds a world ranking of 109 in 2024. It achieves an overall score of 65.9, research quality score of 80.9 and teaching score of 50.1. University of Alberta stands on 73rd place in the world for clinical medicine subjects. Psychology, however, has a ranking of around 180 in the world. This university has a cohort of 33,000 students & there are 22.8 students per staff at the University of Alberta.
University of Montreal holds a world ranking of 111 and has 40,000 students with 22% of them being international. The ratio of female to male students is 59 to 41 there. Note that international students should have a certain level of French language proficiency for universities located in the Quebec region.

Computer science is a premium subject there with a world ranking of 39 and to some extent engineering that sits on 69th place in the world. Life sciences and Art do not hold very good ranks worldwide.
