Nice vid, Sophie. I have a couple of questions for you; what was the most difficult aspect of studying a degree in philosophy for you personally? How do you think it's helped you as a person? And would you recommend the degree?

Thank you for this video. I wish you success in studying. Your style is very impressive, convincing and fun in a simplified explanation on the subject of philosophy. He spoke about some wonderful philosophers. This made me write to you. As for me, I like to read the philosopher John Locke, the philosopher Pascal Blaise, the philosopher Baruch Spinoza, the philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, the philosopher Moses ben Maimo, the philosopher Averroes Ibn Rushd, the philosopher Ismail al-Faruqi al-Raji I want to ask you a question if we can I would like to tell you, is there really a difference between Western philosophy and Arab philosophy?
@SophieRyderVlogs

What a great question! I haven't studied arab philosophy so I will have to do some reading before answering your question. If this is your interest, you could choose a specific focus point and write a dissertation on this in your third year. I think that would be a great topic.

Would you say that liverpool is a very diverse university. Would you say that there are a lot of black students in the uni as I am one and I’m worried if I come that I am one of the only few in the uni. Your input would be very helpful

Lol thank you! But I always think that about anyone studying science. I write essays and do presentations, you have to learn and apply endless facts; I feel like I've got it easier!

I believe in constructive epistemology meaning that you do a research and investigations when you write an essay. I want to study politics, economics and philosophy and the story about my eventual application gots really strange complicated but I would simplify to the statement that I started university in my native country Bulgaria really young (age of 16) and I’ve been studying modules in philosophy, economics and politics ever since. Do you think that the research and the eventual background we would receive when studying this subject there is enough? And is the teaching staff objective and independent when grading your work?

Sounds like this course would be ideal for you :) UoL offers a module on epistemology. It is the theory of knowledge. Your work is marked anonymously in accordance with the official UoL criteria, so it is consistent.

@@SophieRyderVlogs Yes I'm not aware of the fact that epistemology is the theory of knowledge and I may had misrepresented my view on the matter. I meant that when you write an essay (in the system of constructive epistemology) what you do Is to implement research about the matter instead of analyzing it independently on common experience. For example Kant was not constructive epistemologist because most of his base statements are derived from personal inference instead of adding layer to already existing investigation (he was relying on influences like Knutzen and Wolf). Basically when I was writing my comment I did not check the accuracy of the explanatory straightforwardness of my question, leading to misrepresentations. "meaning that you do an investigation when you write an essay" means that instead of fulfilling the module in "critical thinking" with independent statements you compare already existing ones and build upon them..

The discussion you are having there is an epistemological one, and something you would discuss in that module. I think you are referring to the two types of knowledge. Kant is known for 'a priori knowledge'- this is knowledge derived independently of experience. The other type of knowledge is 'a posteriori knowledge'- this is dependent on experience. For example, if I say "all bachelors are unmarried men", this is a priori. I don't need to experience an unmarried man to know that that statement is true. You can know it without experience or sense data. Alternatively, if I say "it is raining outside", this is a posteriori as I can only know this is true by going outside and experiencing it with my senses.

Hi Sophi, i am thinking of studying philosophy as a major but i haven’t studied anything related to this subject specifically in my college or in past. How would it work for me !!!!!!!!!!!
@SophieRyderVlogs

Hello there, great question! You don't need to have studied philosophy before doing a philosophy degree here. All you need is an interest and passion for the subject. You will learn all the skills that you need during the course. One of the lecturers once said to me that people who have never studied it before may in some ways be advantaged, as you won't have picked up GCSE/A level habits or styles. You will start learning with the teachings of the University of Liverpool, and as someone that hasn't studied it before, you may pick it up more easily (e.g. the writing style, presenting etc.) I hope this helps :) Good luck!!

Hey thanks for your brief explanation, by the way if I haven’t studied philosophy through my educational career. How i am gonna prove my interests in the personal statement. That’s is what eating me inside, because this subject is quite different than the others like as we can easily show our interests in other subject but in philosophy i am not quite sure. I hope you will have a reasonable answer for it. 😌😌😌😌

@@AliAli-om7ew Hello, I am not really qualified to answer this as effectively as other sources may. From my limited knowledge, I would suggest mentioning your philosophical areas of interest, and why you are interested in these. Perhaps also mention your favourite philosophers and why. Talk about what philosophy you currently read. If there is any debating group you have set up or attend (for example) this is something you can talk about. Even if someone has studied philosophy academically, the university would still be looking for what that student does philosophically in their spare time too. So these are things everyone can mention, whether you have studied it in school or not. I would suggest looking at other sources to answer this question too, don't just follow my advice. I hope this helps :)
