Aaand we're back! I am so grateful for the amazing feedback you've shared on this series. You guys know, I'm happy to talk about the tough stuff if it will help out a fellow dancer or at least validate what they've gone through. Since awareness is the first step to avoiding victimhood and even creating change, you can expect this series to carry on for a while with videos on other subjects scattered in between.
I do want to restate that politics in ballet is a very nuanced subject, and I DID NOT intend to villainize dancers or directors who might have participated in the actions I mentioned. Here's the deal: ethics can be tricky, and when one truly feels that their security is in danger, it is understandable that they would feel their only option is to act in their own best interest.
Just because people do these things, doesn't mean they are bad people or even necessarily
wrong for doing it. Unless you are able to speak openly with a person who does what I have talked about, you will not know their true intent. Therefore, it is often wrong for us to make harsh character judgements from afar.
Anyway, I just felt the need to say that! I hope you guys enjoyed the pep talk at the end!
Work hard. Trust the process. Be confident in the fact that you have done everything you reasonably can for one day. DON'T LET THE FEAR OF FAILURE STOP YOUR CAREER BEFORE IT REALLY STARTS. The dancers who stand out amongst the rest are the ones who vulnerably put themselves out there to be seen, and when anything doesn't go according to planned, the get up, learn from it, and try again.
"FAILURE" ISN'T THE END. IT'S ONLY FEEDBACK. Use it to make your next attempt better.
That's it :)
