I hope any stand-up comedian knows that laughter isn't the ONLY response you're trying to elicit (it is the loudest, and most indicative of success on stage, though, admittedly). His stories are intriguing, informative, and masterfully told. Maybe it was a small room, I don't know. 🤷♂️ Also, for the record... could've been a tough crowd.😊

As someone who went on their birthright trip a few months ago, I have to say it absolutely connected me to my Judaism in a way I never thought possible. I really enjoyed hearing about his experience. For those also curious about when he went, the Internet says he's 29 right now, and this was recorded about 5 years ago, so assuming he didn't do this set before he went, I think he would have come back from the trip fairly recently, which I think is super cool. (I also rode a camel, had great humus, and floated in the Dead Sea, but I don't remember the bit with the Israeli soldier... 🤔)

I mean it’s technically not violating the Torah but the Talmudic rabbis decided it was too similar to meat. rabbaniot are wives of rabbis. there are conservative women calling themselves rabbah and rabbi, but halachically women can't be rabbis as we don't have the same obligations as men, and can't be considered witnesses because we're flexible with opinion.
@KostyaT
Жыл бұрын
@@BenDavidin5784 can you quote where in the Halacha it says that a woman can't be a rabbi?
@BenDavidin5784
Жыл бұрын
@@KostyaT the reason is that we aren't suitable as edim and aren't chayav in the mitzvot that men are. The mishmeret chaim is part of a minority with the opinion that women have an actual chiyuv of limud Torah for the dinim applicable to us whereas men have a general chiyuv of limud Torah which takes care of the inyan of Kohanim and Malachim. If you want actual Halacha, the Rambam in hilchot Malachim says women can't be appointed to any position of authority. The Beit Yosef in Tur Yoreh Deah says that although lechatchila women can shecht, they can't be appointed as the town shochet as this would be a position of authority. From there we can extrapolate that women can't be rabbanim. Additionally, kabbalistically (which is alluded to in the gemara) it's a very simple thing - נשים דעתן קלה. When a rabbi paskens something, even if it was not the reality beforehand, it becomes the reality thereafter. Women have light דעת which means we can change our opinion easily (even if it's just rethinking something we didn't consider before) - if we paskened something, and changed our mind, with reality as is (not necessarily so for the coming messianic age) we could literally break reality to some degree chvsh

Do you know why? May be because they attacked the Israelites from the rear and killed all the stragglers who were tired and weary. They did not fear God. The implications of this reveal His heart. When you mess with the defenseless, poor and weak you personally affront God’s heart. Woe to those who rely on their strength and abuse the weak for they shall become enemies of God.

I don't know much about Rabbi, but through the law given to Moses, sex was only to be used in marriage, and marriage was only to be between a man and at the time, a few women. Now if you wanted to stump him, ask if the women could be lesbians. Now If I were him I'd say that a man with more than one wife, he marries all the wives, but the wives never marry each other. So once again, two that are not married can't have sex. Then there is that part in Genesis about a man leaving his father and mother and sticking with his wife. At no point was sex to be between 2 of the same sex. Now if you don't like a religions laws, then you always have the option of not joining. However, I would weigh the pros and cons before quitting just because they forbid something that you want, there are probably other benefits you should consider. Though I am not Jewish, I just happen to know about more than just the New Testament.

I actually took a class in college with a Hasidic rabbi professor and one of the issues we discussed was the conflict between Jewish law and the science that homosexuality is not a choice. It’s not so simple as the comedy sketch makes it seem. The Hasidic/orthodox world doesn’t really *know* what to do, (at least not the ones who actually invest in learning about other people, the actual religious laws, and practice compassion and empathy). There doesn’t seem to be a way to get around the prohibition of the act itself for MEN. Which is deeply troubling for many reasons. But that’s nobody’s business but a couple’s, and discrimination of any kind is not appropriate (per what I learned). (Now, is this actually practiced everywhere? Another question entirely…but there is a lot of “community thoughts & behavior/norms” that aren’t technically in line with what the actual laws say. )

@@racheln2136The point of the law was to make you live a happier life. If you disagree with God's rules for a better life, then by all means eat the fruit. If you are trying to find a loophole in his laws, then you might just be on Satan's side and are trying to pretend you are on God's side.
