The stunning Capertee Valley in NSW, Australia is a geological wonder and is recognised internationally as an Important Bird Area (IBA). This slideshow set to a stirring Aussie song - “We’re Going Home” by Vance Joy - is a tribute to its beauty and wildlife, particularly its birds.
While this video was made for anyone who treasures this amazing place or is yet to visit, we especially dedicate it to all the people involved in conservation and habitat restoration efforts in the valley across decades. This includes residents and landholders past and present, researchers, conservation trust and land services officers, and the many individual and group volunteers involved in the tree-planting program in its 24 year history. Go to / 1690815250984454 for a short video about the history of tree-planting in the Capertee Valley and • Bird Diversity after H... to see bird footage on a property which has had extensive habitat restoration. We also acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, the Wiradjuri people.
The photos were taken over three visits to the Capertee Valley - November 2016, March 2018 and May 2018. Because we were too often captivated by the many birds here, our photos were restricted to a handful of locations - Glen Davis Road (to the intersection with Glen Alice Road), Glen Alice Road (to Port Macquarie Road turn off), Port Macquarie Road and Capertee National Park, and two private properties on Glen Alice Road. The two main roads - Glen Davis and Glen Alice - have sealed and unsealed sections. With care a 2WD could travel these sections, although be aware of potholes and corrugation in parts (depending upon road maintenance schedule). But we strongly advise using an AWD/4WD for the road to Capertee National Park.
The bird species and two marsupial species in the slideshow are listed here in the order of appearance: White-winged Triller (male), Yellow-rumped Thornbill, Scarlet Robin (female), Yellow-footed Antechinus, Jacky Winter (juvenile), Double-barred Finch, Crested Shrike-tit, White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike, Willie Wagtail, Superb Fairy-wren (female), Turquoise Parrot (female), Zebra Finch (female), Jacky Winter, Australian Pipit, Double-barred Finch, Dusky Woodswallow, White-browed Babbler, Rufous Songlark (male), Yellow-rumped Thornbill, White-plumed Honeyeater, Zebra Finch (male), Brown Treecreeper, Red-rumped Parrot (male), Striped Honeyeater, Spotted Pardalote (male), Red-necked Wallaby (male), White-browed Babblers, Yellow-footed Antechinus, Rainbow bee-eater (bottom left of screen) with Yellow-tufted Honeyeater (top right of screen), Common Bronzewing (male), Weebill, Peaceful Dove, Hooded Robin (male), Dusky Woodswallow, Rockwarbler.
