For an 80s guy from northeast city who listened to everything but country, Sturgill and a few others transcend the traditional perceptions of "country" music for people like myself... and have cemented themselves as brilliant story-tellers and pure craftsmen of guitar playing. No genre can contain this legend. Great interview

After seeing him live a couple days ago for the first time with my step dad (who introduced me to music) I can say I never have seen a live performance that has matched that level of energy and quality. It was a special night. I won’t ever forget it. I knew it was gonna be good but that was a mind blowing experience.

We just flew from so cal to Oregon to see him in Bend. Best money ever spent! They played for almost 3 hours straight! Came on at 7pm on the dot. Amazing group of musicians! Spend the money YOLO ❤ it was magical.

The first time I discovered Sturgill was when he was interviewed and played with John Prine. John has a lot of talented young musicians around him, because they recognized his greatness if a songwriter and beautiful soul. Tyler Childers and Kacey Musgraves were also his disciples.

I swear, I used to play with Sturgill. He is one of my best friends ever. After we looked for over a year for a singer , he decided to try. The next day he came and sang he wrote the night before. I closed my eyes and played and sang seriously for the first time for me. I thought I was hearing the ghost of Waylon. I love him .he is hilarious, so cool, and the most solid real genuine musician besides myself lol.
