FYI: long ago, I learned from The Martha Stewart…lol, that you can remove pine sap from your skin with butter, just a tad rubbed on liquifies the sap quickly and dish soap easily removes the remaining oily substance. Been using this technique for years and found out regular vegetable oil works too. Might work for tools too 🤷🏼♂️ love the final Niwaki trim you’ve done to these garden trees. 💮

Thank you! We've heard about using cooking oil, but never tried butter. Will give that a try next time! For the tools, we just use orange oil. Works like a charm!

I worked in the timber industry for almost 50 years, the best way to remove pine resin off your skin is to use a light mineral oil like 3 in 1 or clean motor oil to break down the resin and then wash your hand in a hand cleaning solution as normal. Guaranteed no sticky residue. we used to get lots of it in resin pockets in planed timber packs.

@@TonyRaven-r6c thanks for the tip! Will differently give this technique a try in our next pine.

Great job you two! That was a LOT of material removed. I am very curious to see this tree responds over the next year or two. The maple looks incredible as well! Love it!

Thank you! We're also curious to see how this tree grows back in. We've done several pines before, but it wasn't until we started this channel where we actually documented it.

Beautiful. I was wondering about the white pine tree. It seems to have 2 parallel branches that are very thick. Would you want to do something about them in the future? Perhaps they are not actually parallel, it just looks that way from the camera.

Great eye!! Correct, there are two thick parallel branches. We contemplated these two for quite some time, but if we were to remove either of them, the tree would be too bare. We decided it was best to leave both and let the tree grow back in first. Keep in mind, this is the FIRST time it's been cut in over 20 years. It will take quite some time for it to grow back in before we even think about the two parallel branches again.

Love the end result. I do wonder if removing the thick branch on the right is the right thing to do. It's a tough decision. I googled your website do you guys sell large pines? I am located in Washington as well. Thanks!

@@Slippedndipped we contemplated removing the thick branch, too, but at its current state, it would look too bare if we took that out. We want to let this tree do some growing and in the future, we may consider removing that branch and turning it into a windswept.

@@Slippedndipped Forgot to answer the 2nd question. We don't have large pines here unfortunately. We have plenty of juniper, mugi pine, and larch starters. We have some junipers that are in 1 gallon containers, but nothing bigger at the moment.

Great job. What do you think of that big side branch on the right? Would the tree possibly be even better without it?
@AsiaPacificGarden

@@massimiliano.giacometti we are definitely considering that, but we wanted to let the tree grow back a bit more before potentially removing that branch. One day it may be styled as a full wind swept.

thats not a bonsai, its a niwaki!

Yes, we know it's a Niwaki, but KZitem algorithm will shove the word Niwaki into the abyss. The techniques applied to niwaki and bonsai are interchangeable. Both arts are about the structure of the tree.
