Does the presence of high doses of vitamin B6 in addition to B12 in the injections made in the treatment of subacute combined degeneration in advanced B12 deficiency or subsequent subacute combined degeneration worsen the condition?

Yes, high doses B6 shouldn't be taken. Although it is water soluble it has a tendency to accumulate in the body and cause neuropathy. For a person with SACD B6 toxicity should be controlled.

Thank you for the lecture sir. In subacute degeneration of the cord, why the ankle jerk reflex is diminished but knee jerk reflex exaggerated?

It depends on which of the ascending or descending tract is affected. In the late stage complete paraplegia is also possible.

Hi Dr , can the symptoms improve when the patient is started on treatment ? Or does treatment only prevent worsening of symptoms?

The degenerated neurons and tracts will never be functional. Treatment only prevents the worsening of symptoms and further degeneration.

It depends on the extent of the initial damage. A complete discovery is expected.

Is there improvement in balance/coordination after taking B12 injections?

It will prevent further damage. Once a neuron dies, it dies forever.
