Great video. It's like an Airplane cockpit!! Amazing synth I have barely tapped the surface of mine, but I'm not the most technically sharp... Need more tutorials!!

A lovely presentation Gustavo 👍. I like, first of all, the sound. And to get results very quick and to save them. And not to forget, it´s a beauty.

Excellent video! The Subsequent 37 is a magnificent musical instrument. It is dark, smooth, and moody, but it can get gnarly (although not nearly as gnarly as the Subsequent 25).

This is a great design analog monosynth. The evolution from littly phatty through sub phatty to sub 37 then this is interesting. More interesting would have been the meeting(s) at end of life for the phatty synths when the direction forward was decided. Despite selling well for a number of years the smaller/cheaper designs like mother 32 though innovative were a longer term business disaster. (Talk about NOT knowing your brand and market segment...) At the same time (or MAYBE 1 year later) they introduced slim phatty they also really should have introduced a 4 octave 4 voice card 4 part version with toggles for which voice(s) you want on the interface. Dedicated outs/voice normal'd from 1-3 and 2-4. Simple layer/split and note priority settings for the keybed. Single global LFO with phase options for routing to each card. That would have taken almost nothing new - just they keyboard controls and LFO. The Prophet 08 had been selling well for years, yet Moog chose to swim downstream into the volume/cost market - to their inevitable demise. They then could have done a 6 voice based on this voice architecture about the time Sequential released OB-6 and charged about the same price. So many short sighted bad business decisions...

Wow what a GREAT informative video Gus, thank you so much. I’ve been on the fence between this one, the Sequential Pro 3 and the Take 5. You have me right at the point of getting the Moog with your excellent breakdown. I have a question for you, do you feel that as long as the Moog Subsequent 37 has been out I believe since 2018, do you think a possible update or newer model is on its way?

Thanks for your comment. The Take 5 is also an excellent instrument although I do think it's made with cheaper components and annoying plastic that gets sticky if you live it in the sun for too long. But it sounds amazing!! Regarding the potential update to the Subsequent37 I doubt it. It's a great selling synth for them and they'll be risking too much if they change it, unless they made it polyphonic (which I highly doubt) but with the new ownership anything is possible maybe?

I have 2 distinct thoughts watching this and will share the 2nd in another comment. For a completely clean signal with the mini some keep filter sustain well below 7. The VCA overdrives easily and early, but also slowly so you get a really wide range of of saturation that never gets much beyond fairly warm. All of the designs after Bob have a LOT more clean headroom coming into the VCA including this synth. (There is an apocryphal story this was a "mistake" in the original) Similarly the mini filter has quite a wide range from saturation onset through massive clipping and "hangs on" to the top frequencies more than later Moogs - particularly near self oscillation resonance settings. (Nothing insane like an MS-20, particularly rev 1, but that is another thought train...) This seems like a great live Moog for you. Still, in a studio setting it would be interesting to hear similar patch comparisons designed to isolate a sound pushing the VCA and other patches designed to explore the range of pushing the filter from just starting to saturate to completely overdriven with and without resonance hovering near self-oscillation.

5:20 I‘m a big nerd, also owning a MatrixBrute. 😁 But the basic sound of the S37 is unsurpassed. Moog should have built a 4-octave version though.

@@RayyMusik what they really should have done was build a 4 octave 6 voice bi-timbral version instead of the Moog One and sold it for about the same price as the Sequential 6 voice synths. OR they could have had that assembled/tested/packaged the same place all the parts are built and sold it for the same price as a Polybrute...
