In all sizes, the GraphGear 500s are excellent pencils. In terms of feel and comfort I really can go for either them or the P200 Sharp, but I have noticed that the GG500 is _much_ more friendly to my handwriting style when I have to write fast without sacrificing legibility, thanks to the front-biased center of gravity. With center-balanced pencils, I can't help but overreach my gestures when writing in a hurry. I'm currently learning Japanese and this goes double for that writing system. Now one model I firmly put the GG500 above is the Orenz (I have both in 0.3mm). The slightly wider grip gives me better precision when writing in tiny font, and my hand pressure is so light that I don't need the Orenz's protective sliding sleeve, at least for 0.3; I don't doubt I'd break any exposed 0.2mm lead, it's so painfully thin! As for their use in creative drawing, I'll trust my art-inclined friends on that. The closest I ever got to that was technical drafting, I'm not one for making visual art 😅 Wonderful showcase, Cleo, thank you ❤

This Pentel Graphgear 500, is the Japanese version. The other version,without the hardness indicator and the different colors on the body, is the International version. The Japanese version, isn't easy to find in the USA or Europe, however, there are at least a couple of shops, tat are going to offer it. It just takes some searching ,because the Japanese version, is more rare to find out of Japan,, where the International version is almost on all stationary shops around the world,because this is one of the best, if not THE best,mechanical pencil out there.

If the grip part, is aluminum on the Japanese version and brass (which it is) on the International version,then the difference is going to be different on both balance and weight. What I've found out until now, is that the point of balance is different on my international versions, compared to yours. Mine is on the metal grip.Your point of balance, is further on the body part. When you adjust the hardness can you put HB but make it B on the pencil
@fanofpencils-cleo774
2 жыл бұрын
Ah, The bottle neck of choosing leads for mechanical pencil is the lead size (0.3; 0.5; 0.7 or 0.9mm) because of the precise size of the clutch and sleeve. On the contrast, the lead hardness is optional and you can put in whatever hardness you like. For this particular pencil, the lead hardness indicator can show 4H_3H_2H_H_HB_B and it need to be manually adjusted to indicate the hardness of lead that you‘re using. Unfortunately, the 2B hardness which I personally like is not available in the indicator of Pentel Graphgear500.

@fanofpencils-cleo774

Is the lead the same brand with the pencil? I experienced a case that my pencil constantly jammed when I put a cheap-unbranded lead in, it turned out the lead diameter is a little bigger hence it jammed my pencil. I’m not sure if this is what happening with your pencil, but if you find it’s hard to pull the lead out then it may be the case.
@user-ec3nv8rh9l
2 жыл бұрын
@@fanofpencils-cleo774 Hmm. It seems you may be right. Jam never happens with my Pentel or Uni pencils. But I think it may happen with GG500 because there are no loose spots - all is tight. I used no name leads with Uni, but for kuru toga it's opposite, it's not so tight.
@fanofpencils-cleo774
2 жыл бұрын
@@user-ec3nv8rh9l I believe the chance of jamming depends on the tolerance of the clutch. And yes, each brand and each pencil version may have its own tolerance. Cheap plastic clutch is more tolerant of lead diameter since the clutch more flexible. Note: The downside of plastic clutch is its degradation or it becomes distorted/loosen overtime. Unfortunately, brass clutch or general metal clutch is more precise and robust, hence jam is likely to happen when feeding in a little-thicker lead.

@@fanofpencils-cleo774 Same thing happened with mine. I used a different brand of lead refill, 'cause I didn't know pentel have their own leads 🤣. Also, I dropped my GG500 many times before, it didn't break though 😂. Though, it received a dent at the tip, scratching the lead as I push, also, causing it to jam. However, I fixed it with just sanding or cutting the small dent, that prevents the lead to push through. It's good as new now 😌🤣

Hehe. It's like test - if you are pencils lover you should have at least one GG 500 as a starting point... I odered 2 0.5 of them 4 years ago for red and blue color leads for less than 5 $ - now they are almost twice that price. At first it supposed to be 2 Delguards, blue and pink, but they worked vice versa and broke leads. With GG 500 no problems - they are light, well balanced, reliable, without any loose spots like the pencil and lead are the same body. It has fallen more than couple of times and still works as earlier, nothing is bent... so it's scary to order something full-metal, especailly replicas of rotrings and I think to buy something I've already tested for a gift though prices are too high.
