Succulent Repotting and Care
The growing temperature of succulents varies depending on the species. Except for those succulents that can tolerate cold, the best temperature for succulent growth is generally 10℃ to 30℃. In summer, when the temperature exceeds 35°C, succulents may enter a dormant state. At this time, it is necessary to provide shade, ventilation, and reduce the frequency of watering. In winter, for most succulents, the growth temperature should be above 0°C. Growth may stop when it is below 5°C. When it reaches 0°C or below, succulents may suffer frostbite or freeze to death. There are of course some drought or heat tolerant varieties. If we don’t understand the characteristics of the varieties, I personally think there should be no problem if we try to control the temperature between 0-35°C. One of the determining factors for why succulents are so brightly colored and beautiful is the temperature difference between day and night. The temperature difference between morning and evening of 10-15℃ is most conducive to getting out of shape. We can place the succulents outdoors or artificially control the temperature difference to achieve the best results. Some of the roots of these succulents I just received have been cut off. When potting them, the most important thing is to give them the ideal state and let them grow roots and serve the pot first. Therefore, the temperature should be moderate, between 10℃ and 30℃, not too cold, not too hot.
Succulents are light-loving plants, so we should give them enough light but not expose them to strong light. From spring to autumn, there is no big problem in growing in the open. In summer, you should pay attention to shading, especially avoid the hot sun at noon. Too much sunlight can cause damage to succulents. You can place your succulents in a location that receives morning or evening sunlight to better meet their light needs. The succulents I just received need to wait a while. I first place them in a place with diffuse light and plant them for a while. Wait for them to grow new roots and pot them, then place them in a place with direct sunlight. Remember, succulents with leaves that have been propagated or have just been repotted should be protected from sunlight. Light is also one of the important factors for growing succulents in good condition. After the succulents have been planted for a period of time and potted, they can be given sufficient light.
There are really different opinions about watering. Some people water once every two or three days, some once a week, and still others maybe once a month. I personally think that you should not copy other people's watering frequency to care for your own succulents. You can learn from other people's suggestions and experiences, but there is no need to implement them exactly. Because the frequency of watering is affected by many factors, including the succulent cultivation medium, the environment at the time, the succulent variety, the growth status of the succulent, and the flower pot used. For example, using a medium with a high proportion of particles requires frequent watering. The local environment has good ventilation, dry climate, high temperature, and water evaporates quickly, so watering frequency is also high at this time. The succulent that has just been repotted must not be abused. It needs to be carefully taken care of to allow it to grow new roots and repot it as soon as possible. At this time, watering must be kept up. For succulents with well-developed root systems, in order to be in good condition and to make the succulent leaves grow plump, we can control the water at this time, that is, mistreat the succulents and water them less. Because the frequency of watering is low, succulents are in a state of crisis. When we water them once in a while, they will absorb enough water and store the excess water in the leaves. This is why the succulent leaves are round and cute. Of course, don’t abuse the succulent that has just been repotted. Watering must be kept up at this time to allow it to grow new roots. A flowerpot for succulents. Plastic flower pots have good moisturizing effects, so they need to be watered less frequently than pottery pots or purple sand pots with good air permeability. During the growing season, water more frequently than during the dormant period. Therefore, I personally feel that watering is a dynamic process and there is no fixed watering frequency. During the growing season, when the pot soil is completely dry, you can water it. During the dormant period, you can let the pot soil dry for a period of time before watering. Of course, plants are still very resilient and adaptable. If you forget to water them occasionally or water them too much, they will be fine. I personally think it is safer to keep succulent plants on the dry side and not water them too much. I think when caring for plants, you just need to maintain a certain level, and don't go too extreme.
