I think this is one of the most beautiful things on KZitem. The music of a blind Irish harper and two wonderful musicians. What a soothing balm to see what humans can do instead of the cruelty we see too often.

Beautiful rendition. I heard this song for the first time as a child of maybe eight or so - played live on black and white tv by some visiting folk group. I somehow managed to switch on a cassette tape recorder, that my dad had bought for my brother and I for christmas because we had to keep up with technology of course. I managed to get this and a snippet of another song. One I missed which haunted me for years turned and which I had no idea what was or how to ever find again turned out to be “The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond“, which i literally did not find out for a couple of decades. But Fanny Poer - I listened to that crappy recording over and over and over, especially the part where the B-section comes in. That was pure poetry to me. Eventually the tape was lost to time and with it - any idea what that song was and I kinda mourned it and every once in a while the tune would come back to haunt me. It was probably the first song i ever sat down at a piano and transcribed by memory, spelling it out one note at time so was to hold on to it somehow. A few years ago I was thinking about the song again and happened upon app which will help you locate particularly folk tunes by playing or humming a snippet of the melody. So I played what I remembered and only then after probably 40 years did the title of that song surface and I knew what it was. This version is more elborate but has some of the dynamics and moods that I seem to still be able to recall. I have heard other versions that didn’t feel quite that same way to me. Anyway - thats how music would stick in the head of a kid in the time before the internet.

Lovely. I wonder if the five hundred of us who liked this video have each watched it enough times to account for the 23k views🙂

I need not add to the many well deserved accolades regarding the sensitivity and musicality performed here but instead comment on how the video was shot and commend the person doing the camera work. As a fellow trad musician I was moved by the playing, but as a videographer, loved the "two shot" of the four hands through the harp strings and the "two shot" of how Robin's face was framed in the harp's curved neck. Very creative at adding to the video as a whole. I will respectfully borrow these angles in my filming of musicians and thank you for the ideas.
