it hurts everytime I think Bernard left Suede until now. Don"t know why. Broken dream!!! But welcome Richard ,he saved Suede.

I agree to a certain extent, but Richard Oakes was chosen because he sounded exactly like Bernard Butler. Must be weird to make a career out of trying to sound like somebody else. Actually, I guess that's pretty common. (Looking at you, Oasis)

@@robin_holden Haha. Oasis are the most boring band ever. But I will stand up for Oakes. His early riffs were definitely Butler-esque, but I think he did develop his own style. And who knows, without him, Suede might have just fallen apart.

I'm glad they're friends again and making great music in The Tears. As much as I like Richard though, I wish they'd play some Suede songs with Butler again.

If Bernard had stayed in Suede they would have been the biggest band of the time

I tend to believe so. A great pity that the ever so brilliant collaboration didn't last long.

History has seriously vindicated Bernard Butler about the whole split. Not only did Brett get in touch with him as soon as 'A New Morning' was done knowing he needed him to get 'his demon' back but everything Butler said about the shoddy production at the time has turned out to be validated. Butler concedes that he might have been lacking the people skills at the time to work well with people but on an artistic front he was the leading light in this era.

Where does Bernard talk about his people skills? This interview? Not had a chance to watch the whole thing!

The body language is awkward, sure, but knowing they've done The Tears together since shows there's definitely still a connection, albeit an estranged one, given their history..

zen242 - Don't get me wrong, I do tend to prefer their albums with Bernard, but their most successful period was actually with Richard and Neil and "Coming Up". Brett himself will admit that what crocked them shortly afterwards was his olympian drug use shortly after then. :)

CONSIDERABLYMORE1 - Claiming to like Suede (naming two songs you actually like) and then ranting about "the rest are very average products of the sort of self indulgent up their own arse crap" shows a lack of honesty in your opening 3 words! Also to go on and say "Imagine Jimmy Hendrix coming out with garbage like this" is beyond stupid. Comparing Suede to Jimmy Hendrix is like comparing football to synchronised swimming. In that case they are both sports but completely different. I don't think you should compare artists from completely different backgrounds making completely different music and then try and criticise them. If you are going to do it then at least come up with an artist that at has something very slightly musically in common. Other than the fact Jimmy Hendrix and Bernard Butler are/were both guitarists. And I'm sure some people would call Hendrix' music garbage. But that's why we all like different things and have different tastes. I feel I should not have to be explaining this but apparently you don't seem to understand that.

Their best songs had awesome lyrics and the best bighting riffs. I dont consider New Generation and Wild Ones to be their best.
