Those who comment adversely on the time it is taking probably don't understand that this is a personal project done in your "spare" time. You don't have a paying customer waiting for it. The surest way to screw up any project is to rush it without proper planning. Your next (?) will probably be quicker as you have learned as you go and have made many of the necessary tools and jigs. Just keep on as you are.

You didn't expect the moisture in the glue to cause the bridge plate to curl because after all the bridge plate wasn't curly maple. Drum roll . I love it. That was a good one Susan. LOL!!!

I was only thinking, before your comments at the end, how satisfying it must be to spend so much time doing a job perfectly. It seems that others don't get it, I am so jealous of the discipline involved. Keep on doing it at your own pace, I'm enjoying it, and I'm not even interested in building an acoustic guitar🙂.

Don't worry about any negative comments Susan. You're making a lovely job of the guitar and the time it takes is the time it takes. Better to take your time and get it right than hash through and make a rear end of it - ask me how I know this! One quick comment on the bridge plate - not sure how much value there is in radiusing the underside of such a thin piece of wood. I used to do it but didn't on my last 3 X braced guitars. The top radius is pretty much established by that massive X of wood glued to it and I don't think any shape of the bridge plate within reason is going to affect that. Just had a discussion on the ANZLF where Trevor Gore contributed about whether to radius the underside of even the main braces in a falcate braced guitar. His answer was not to bother as gluing the falcate braces with carbon fibre and epoxy in the dish is enough to put the radius into the top. I think I'll radius the main braces anyway as there's nothing to be lost in doing it. Bridge plate will be a carbon fibre/wood laminate and there'll be no way to radius it as the CF is the layer immediately in contact with the top. Sheesh - sorry for the War and Peace comment!

Don't rush it! It is a true pleasure to watch somebody who has both the depth of technical insight into what they're doing and the dexterity and craftsmanship to be able to execute it. It is a very rare combination. On top of that, you explain it so clearly and in such an entertaining manner. If the finished guitar repays even a fraction of what you've put into it, it will be amazing. I've a feeling, though, that it will repay what you've put in several times over. Take your time susie .i like to see it over time its great. And pros can take up to 3 months to build a accoustic from scratch. Some people are impatient.

Nice work ! Don't fret over time; I have been working on mine since September 2017. Hopefully finish it this year. There are a ton of steps building an acoustic; this is easily the most involved project Ive ever undertaken. Getting in a hurry is not an option. On the humidity issue, I'm in Virginia. I had to stop and wait for winter before gluing top braces and closing the box, so that humidity levels would drop enough that the wood had a chance to be stable as a finished guitar.

A good indicator of humidity is to join a strip of spruce the thickness of the front to another piece of spruce the same thickness of the front at right angles to the first strip about 2 inches wide and about 1 foot long thereby creating a piece of 2 ply that will bend when the humidity changes. A good indicator of when it is advisable to glue up and more importantly when not to glue up.

The reason the saw gives you trouble is that you push it down too hard. Sawing works best with very light pressure, almost the weight of the saw only. It also doesn't take much force to keep the piece steady then.

Susan, great vidieo I made a tool for removing glue squeeze out, I took an old 1/4" paddle bit & ground it down to about 1/8" wide beveled it like a chisel but I didnt sharpen it so it wont really scratch the wood surfaces & it has nice square edges to get in tight against whatever Im trying to remove excess glue from. I just thought I would share

I was thinking that it isn't necessary to join the x braces, because if you view some other guitar makers, you will see that they actually make a point of not joining the x brace, leaving a gap between them on purpose.

You are quite right to be worried about all the bridge holes being in line along the bridge plate so why didn't you cut the bridge plate at an angle from corner to opposite corner and glue it together as you did the front. Thereby increasing the strength of the front of the guitar by increasing its diagonal strength. Just a thought since my guitars have a front that goes from side to side and have a piece of wood running from top to bottom supported by two braces running side by side of the centre piece.

Hi I get a tight fit, then use epoxy to join the X brace joint before gluing to the top. My hope is the epoxy will fill any small gaps and also the register it at the angle I desire. Do you think it's a good approch to use the epoxy? It gives me extra feelings of security!

I've never used a sanding disc (radius disc). Did you make yours or Buy it? How deep would you say it is? You didn't use the full diameter. I'm guessing 5/8 deep? You used about half of that. I could get some string and paper to figure it out. mark it on paper. That would take a lathe with an 18 inch swing. Maybe..

For a 600mm diameter 8.5m/28ft radius dish, it’s only 5mm deep. Tricky to make on a lathe I’d say, because of the very large radius. I’ll bet some clever person has a lathe jig though. Here’s the video for mine - there’s a separate vid for making the jig - I measured my curve, but you can scribe a curve using a ‘long compass’. kzitem.info/news/bejne/k3x91I2scad2nKA

Where did you get the mini plane you used to chamfer the edges? Right or wrong, I sand a VERY slight chamfer on the front and back edges facing down. This is helpful if you ever need to remove the bridge plate. You can more easily get a palette knife started under it. I really like your videos.

1:00 ... More and more guitar builders do NOT glue this type of joint. They always overlap. If the best guitar builders do it, they do it for a good reason. Have a look at this video, where Matt McPherson himself explains why: It starts at around 14m30sec (explanation starts at around 16 min) : kzitem.info/news/bejne/mI6N1YuQbqZ8h5g

I am surprised that you didn't use a safety ruler, I know that a marking knife is not as sharp as a Stanley knife but it can still cause a nasty cut and since you are a guitarist you should be aware of the dangers of sharp tools. You usually are safety conscious, far more than me, it has to be said, but I thought it was worth a mention. Just being concerned for your wellbeing. As always a very good video.
