Wife of 19 yrs walked out on me and our 5 kids last July. We spent months homeless or in a shelter. After countless 60 hr work weeks I made us a home again. Now after all our struggle and after she's had her fun, she wants back in. It hurts, but after careful consideration I have advised her to stay.....stay gone, stay away. Sad but kind of happy at the same time. God, this song reminds so much of all the times I begged her to love me. In the end it was for the best. Great song

I was married for close to 30 years when my husband left me for a woman at work. It tore me up and almost broke me. The absolute darkest time of my life. Sometimes I was so broken I felt like I couldn’t breath. It’s been 3 years since that day and while I almost can’t stand to remember the feeling of the darkness, I am proud that I made it through a time where I almost gave up. Some people comment that maybe we will be friends in the future when the pain passes. I always reply, absolutely not. I have no desire to relive the absolute betrayal from a man who disposed of me like common trash. No thanks! I spent so many years feeling worthless and alone. I don’t need to live that way ever again.

I use to play this song over and over again when it came out. I was the wife, but felt like the other woman. My husband spent all his time and affection on other women. This song gave me the strength to say enough. And I left my husband. It was the hardest decision I ever made. He was the love of my life, my whole heart. My husband never thought I would ever leave him. He changed his life completely, and won me back. Our life our love our marriage was happy, unfortunately that was only for a short time. 5 years later he died in my arms at the age of 51. My heart forever broken He was and will always be my 1 true love. Even with all the pain he caused me. I truly loved him, and he did change 100 percent.

My husband and I have now been separated 6 years and divorced 3 yrs. He also was ( at least I thought) was the love of my life. And the 24 and a half years I never saw him doing no wrong and blamed it all on myself. But now i know things I didn't but my heart aches for him still. We were 15 years old and I was 38 when we separated. He's moved on to someone else the one I think was kinda in picture. But my heart feels like it will always be broken. I trust in God and I have to much love to give someone that deserves it as much as me. It's just in his timing and a broken 💔 will be healed. So happy you and your husband reconciled and so sorry for your loss.

To all you happily married people, thank God you are, because the worst feeling next to loosing a child is to loose the love of your life because she wanted the greener grass on the side of the fence. Then they realize it’s not and comes home like nothing happened. It will tear at your soul and slowly drain everything good about you until you are empty inside. The trauma to your head and heart is like what a soldier gets on the battle field, you will never be the same again. I pray to all the people in love please don’t ever cheat on your partner, leave them first it won’t hurt as bad as cheating. Amen from an empty soul

I disagree! If I have one critique of Jennifer it's that she's just too darn "happy" for my tastes. She seems like one of those naturally happy and upbeat people that comes from a good family. She certainly has the looks. Then you add that voice and what has she ever had to be down about? Through no fault of her own, Jennifer probably lacks enough experience in the more painful aspects of life. As far as this song is concerned, I doubt any guy had been stupid enough to pick another woman over Jennifer. I don't care if the other woman was a Victoria secret model, Jennifer is one in 10, 000,000. Nah, if she was drawing on past painful experiences for this song, she was more likely remembering a favorite dog that passed away.

I think what this song has done for many men is show us the pain and suffering we bring on loving women for out shear selfishness. When a man is in this spot he generally isnt thinking so much about the pain he is causing (both women) by stringing them both along. Those of us that have done this sort of thing after listen to this song will hopefully feel true remorse for what they have done, and for those that have not done this it might make them think twice. If your in a bad relationship, just pack up and go, don't hold keys to two doors it only make thing worse and you will lily lose both and to be honest, that is what you deserve if you put good women in this position.

I was recently strung along to discover he was seeing a woman who had a history of cheating on him. He's marrying her now and when I confronted him about how he hurt me, he gave me the silent treatment. It's good to know that there are men out there who regret doing this to women (and I apologize about the women who do it to men too) and realize how much it hurts. I doubt he's one of them but your comment struck a chord with me in a good way.
@PhilEadie65

Unfortunately the emotion of this song is not just a woman / man thing. As a husband that lost my wife, the only love of my life, to another man I am intimate with the pain caused by someone that played two men against each other, killing two families (2 partners and 8 kids) in the process. The agony of trying to fix something with someone that only wants to keep lying and using you is a genuinely soul destroying endevour. I try to see through this songs plea by the third person and understand the simple pain of someone in love with someone who has made a decision not to make a decision but instead to simply go on hurting two people because they want it all.

It wasn't based on her own experience. The song was inspired by Reba McEntire’s “Whoever’s in New England,” which was written from the perspective of a wife whose husband is cheating on her. Nettles knew countless songs written from that viewpoint but none from the other two people involved. She says most people don’t realize that even the person who is doing the cheating gets hurt as well.

Acording to what I read, this was the first Sugarland song written entirely by Nettles, and she did not think it was all that good, but the other member of Sugarland, Kristian Bush, finally convinced her to let him read the lyrics, and he was blown away. He also stated he feels like a big brother to her...he is a married man. He described how through multiple attempts Nettles kept breaking down crying. It was making him very angry, and he said it was like watching a close friend being tortured, and by Noon he was exhausted emotionally, and just said they would have to peice together the clips, he could not bear to watch this anymore. Even though the end result required dubbing over the parts she was breaking down in, that is what makes this video so powerful. It is almost like she layed bare every emotionally painful thing that had ever happened to her in this video. You can't possibly fake that, or even reproduce it. Sugarland has done this song countless times since, live. In my opinion, none of the subsequent performances carry the raw emotion of this video. I can also easily see why Kristian Bush found it so hard to watch it, but it made for a truly remarkable video that is hard to ever match...the viewers could truly feel the pain. It was real, it was raw, and it was amazing.

After 15 years of marriage, I was that man. I ripped two families apart for selfishness. It doesn’t matter what is going on in a relationship, it’s never right to cheat. You never “owe to yourself” to cheat. My wife divorced me. I deserve every bit of hell I got from her for the hell I put her through. Through Gods forgiveness and a lot of work, my wife and I were remarried. That was 8 years ago. She has shown me grace and forgiveness that I don’t deserve. I will never take her for granted again.

This song will always be a heartbreaker, the raw emotion is something we just don’t see any more. My heart goes to everyone tired of being a plan b, we’re stronger than we know

I couldn't put a woman through this, I can't stand it when the tears start. I have been married 53 years.

I've lost my wive, never saw her crying, not for me, until she was gone. Jumped over to another man who then couldn't take care of her. Guess i was in love with an illusion but it still hurts everyday. Three beautiful boys, almost 30 years together and almost 20 years married. Now all women i meet reminds me of that Eric Paslay song "She don't love you". Kiss your wive will you and tell her that you love her. You're a lucky man.

One of if not THE most heartfelt performances of any song videos I have ever seen. That was absolutely awesome. A beautiful lady with an incredible voice.

This perfectly illustrates how hard it is to leave someone who you care for but you know that it's bad for you. Just because it hurts and it upsets you doesn't mean you're weak minded or desperate.
