@@Ash05771 oh yeah for sure, I'm betting that a decent suit (obviously more than $50) plus tailoring will cost less than a expensive suit that looks equivalently good, but the premise of the video is too hyperbolic to be accurate
@Collin275

I can’t emphasize enough the importance of a good tailor for a wardrobe. I’m 37 and have worn suits for far longer than I could afford a “nice and expensive one,” but I still needed it to look good. Here’s what I’ve learned: 1. Don’t buy a $50 suit. That’s probably *too* cheap, and you’ll pay for it once all is said and done. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to find a cheap suit that looks good and fits well. It’s worth putting in the effort to visit a lot of stores and see which of their off-the-rack suits fit best. 2. It’s worth spending the time to find a brand that fits you best before tailoring. The less tailoring you have to do, the better. 3. Be careful about buying a suit one size too big and then just tailoring it down. There are certain aspects of a suit (such as the upper chest on a jacket) that cannot be changed. I have personally made the mistake of buying a 44L (I’m a 42R) and found out the hard way that no matter how much tailoring is done, it’s never going to fit right. For years, I wore the cheap Macy’s suit. I think the whole two-piece was like than $125. I didn’t even have to do much tailoring. I have worn even cheaper H&M suits and learned that the juice just wasn’t worth the squeeze.
@Collin275
Ай бұрын
I should add, I am now fortunate enough that I can afford to have a lot of things tailored, and purchase bespoke and M2M suits. And arguably, they’re not “that” much better than the good-but-cheap approach I used for years. Im a goofy shape so tailoring has become a staple in the rest of my wardrobe overall.

Almost all the off the rack suits need some level of tailoring. Especially suits that are more budget friendly. I wouldn't buy a 50 dollar low-quality suit and than tailor the hell out of it (buy vintage for higher quality garments). But for the most part it's solid advice and tailoring doesn't have to be a couple hundred bucks (very area and tailor specific ofcourse). Fit is king.

Find yourself a quality vintage suit and have that tailored. It’ll cost you a fraction whilst being considerably better quality than something cheap today. I recently wore a 70’s Armani suit to a wedding. Bought it for 100, had it tailored for another 100; result was a beautiful suit that I received many compliments for, for a fraction of the price. The only thing you need to watch out for is that it doesn’t look too obviously dated, but even then your tailor can work on that by adjusting the silhouette.

They will have a mid range high quality suit that they can tailor as well at a resonable price. remember if you buy suits are a high end retail store, you are paying for their rent and not the actual suit.

On a serious note, this suit isn't fitting you properly and the pants do not and should never look like that. Showing your ankle with a suit is never a good idea and it looks stupid, to be honest. Formal socks are longer than normal for a reason, they elongate your look and make you look taller and also slick.

I can’t emphasize enough the importance of wearing clothes that actually fit you. These pants look have much too low of a rise to actually proportion his body properly. With jeans and chinos it matters significantly less but if you’re dressing up please make sure your pants actually sit on your actual waist which is just above your belly button. Taking a pair of low rise pants and giving them to a tailor for him to taper them even more will other make them less proportionate, especially if you work out at the gym and have virtually any muscle mass on your upper body or aren’t super skinny. If you look at Ralph Lauren or Miles Davis or any classic menswear icon none of them would ever wear pants that look like this. If you wanna wear skin tight jeans that make you look like Kings of Leon go ahead but if you show up to a formal occasion dressed like this you are a total bozo.
