As a fellow Asian, I don't think Jort's attitude towards the Chinese was condescending in the least; rather, it's an accurate reflection of the undeniable biases in the menswear industry. It's good to get it out there because it shows the change in his attitude after experiencing what SuitSupply's workers can do. Don't be overly-sensitive! Great job on SuitSupply for showing us the non-sweatshop conditions of their factory.

@@growingmelancholy8374 I mean, all companies do in this industry, except those that sell at premium prices. Which unfortunately not many can afford. If those workers did not work for suitsupply, or in fact any western company, they'd be working for a chinese firm and be paid the same (probably even less, as chinese giants can get away with a lot of things thanks to support from government). So, while this video feels a bit weird, that's because they are being straight up honest whereas most comparable brands would simply try to sweep it under the rag.

I'm puzzled as to why Chinese people would find this video condescending. It is underlined that the Chinese people are hard workers, are great at craftsmanship, and he even gives a reason as to why the biases of Europe about the Chinese industry (everything from China is 'rubbish') are not true. Sure, that bias itself might be condescending, but to ignore it would just be bad marketing. A video should explain what customers think (keep in mind that this includes and probably mostly consists of European middle-aged or older men), and I am of the opinion that this video does that very well.

It’s funny how nobody gets the free market. These people aren’t forced to work there. They chose the job because it’s the best they could have. Raising the wage would be less jobs, which would cause people to be out of food because we decided the job to be beneath some Western standard. I am Dutch and I think Jort’s directness and honesty is virtuous.

No, at this moment the salary in China is quite higher. In Shanghai, generally, net salary almost reach the avarage salary in NL. In wenzhou, it can be lower indeed. But 1 dollars per day is impossible.

I already said: 1 dollars per day is impossible. They are working in the town close by Shanghai. The lowest salary there is around 300 euro per month. Don't misunderstand and make "issue".

The opinion what I gave is about the cost of labor in that location. Wenzhou is close by Shanghai and their salary is not what you or he expected. And I just gave a sort of correction. It is not zero sense at all as you said. Another truth is that some of the west manufactures already left from China because of the cost of labor.
