When your summer bucks leave, don't worry. Someone's else's summer bucks will end up at your place.

On public land which thousands of people use it’s impossible to see these don’ts being used. So many have no idea of what you’re trying to convey here. Honestly, many don’t have a clue about how and even where to hunt. They have no concept of being stealthy etc. cameras are one of the best aids because they allow weeks of noninvasive information. These ideas will work great on private property where traffic is controlled. On the other hand, I travel almost daily in my vehicle about 6 1/2 miles loop checking cows, fence, water etc. For years the same deer see and hear me over and over. They will watch me from their safe zone pass by and never move. They have become used to my presence. This goes for some “ resident ? lol” bucks. I watch them age and grow year after year from comfort of my truck. This is not in the forests of country but in mesquite and grass etc pastures. This familiarization allows me to go by the places where there are ladder stands or other platforms on what true trees there are and drop off the bow hunters. The deer pay little mind and go about their routine. This has become our prime process for selectively killing deer.

Yes the idea of intrusion on public is a big one, so planning around others is tough. These thoughts go well with our next podcast with Doug Roberts. Signup if you want to receive an email when that out this week! deeriq.com/signup/

72 years old, hunted public, my private property, and hunt clubs of 1000s of acres. Most important observation: don't let the deer know they're being hunted. With that said, I can control myself but can't control other people. Deer are not"smart", they have acute senses, instinctive behavior, and they can be conditioned. I don't use (hate) bate and trail cameras. Learn to hunt. If possible, hunt away from other hunters, try to be scent zero, approach from down wind (or don't hunt that area if wind is unfavorable) and if possible avoid weekends when other hunters are in the woods. I use a climber and try to be 25 ft to 35 ft up. The woods and buck behavior change as the season progresses. Try to learn from each hunt. The video was good! I hunt in the south eastern US.

The first 3 involved intrusive scouting. Do you think this is OK on public land and that deer tolerate this? Please explain..

So you think it's totally fine to bust into your areas extensively with scent and sound before season and with intrusive scouting? Best of luck then

@adamlewis_outdoor absolutely. Only your true bow hunters are going to be out this time of year. Your average Joe's going to ride around 2 or 3 days before season and hang a stand. By then I've already got all my cell cams, mock scrapes and stands hung a month before season. You may pressure them a day or 2 but this time of the year I'm the only pressure they will experience. In a few days they will be over it and by end of September I will be a memory. I rely on my cameras In those core areas to tell me what's going on without having to go back Into it. But I only know what I need by doing long scouts in those areas during the summer. I will go in rite before a rain so my scent is washed out within hours of being in the area.
