My hometown. It was a great little place to grow up. My mom and dad migrated there from Eastern KY in the 50s. My dad got a job at nearby Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where I also worked for 8 years. Besides the AFB, there is Wright State University & great proximity to larger towns like Dayton, Columbus & Cincinnati.

Fairborn is a fairly large town. with lots of black people. I wouldn’t say it’s much of a sundown town now a days, but 70% of people in Fairborn still practice a form of racial segregation . Now Beavercreek next door is a sundown town fr. it’s safe in the day time but don’t be riding thru Beavercreek cruising at night while black.

@@frankgilbert5148 meaning people prefer to live in the same areas as their own race most of the time, that doesn't make it racist as you called it. Racial segregation literally means whites on one side and blacks on another side, that does not mean that they're racist, but if you want to be technical it's plenty of racist people in fairborn, let's not act like racism doesn't exist out there 😂

I’m from Fairborn and I’m sure before the Air Force Base was there it was like that since it was 2 villages that joined together one village was mainly poor and back then sad but true it was anyone of color and the other village was wealthy white people so I can see this but yes beavercreek is for sure. Still a sundown town so is yellow springs Fairborn when I was browning up had several officers of color but then when they retired I know it has its issues but again that has changed and also when a lot of the projects got shut down in Dayton a lot of groups of people of color moved into Fairborn but I can say there is only 1 Fairborn in the whole USA probably the world there but we do have other city’s or villages with born in the name but Fairborn in October is Halloweentown

I live in ohio. I stayed in Fairborn for 2 years roughly. I went to the university there as well. I did a research project and interviewed people from my school. They were two white kids same age as me. At the time we were 18, 19 and they were telling me and my partner that Fairborn was really racist. They had saw some pretty nasty encounters. This interview was in 2014. I’ve been followed by police home more than once, I’ve had a cousin who was police officer and he quit and I was told because they didn’t treat him right. Other than that, I haven’t experienced the true nasty ness of this town. I’ve shopped there, and travel many places like the library, municipal court and more by myself. As a black women I have never felt the said racism. Just been watched by the police.

Thank you for acknowledging you never directly suffered racism in our community. And young people tend to view events through a different lens. They may not have experienced "racism", but age discrimination. Cops always look for kids causing trouble. My kids grew up here with so many different kids. It was a lot of fun for them.

nah bro fairborn isn't really much of a sundown town now a days, if you were to travel to Fairborn in 2022 (present time) you'd see it's lots of blacks that live there. It's poor blacks and whites in Fairborn, then you have the privileged blacks & whites in Fairborn. In Fairborn it really isn't a race thing (sometimes not always !!) It's more about the fortunate vs the poor. The poor people of Fairborn live closer to wright state university (southern Fairborn) & the folks with money live closer to downtown fairborn / northeast Fairborn and the low / middle class is in between. I be in Fairborn a lot and I've never experienced racism out there, I'm not saying that it doesn't exist but me personally, I've never came across it and I'm black. Compared to Beavercreek, Fairborn is poor as fuck for the most part. Now in Beavercreek you'd experience racism to the max, not all the time but sometimes. Fairborn is mostly filled with young hippies / college kids who for the most part get along no matter the race, but Beavercreek is full of racist people who mostly migrate from Kentucky, Indiana or somewhere similar. Beavercreek is filled with young hippies too, which for the most part are cool as fuck, but the deeper you get into Beavercreek, it start to feel like Mississippi or some shit 😂 . Just stick to the areas along interstate 675 & you'll be fine. If your not from Dayton or the Dayton area, I'd advise you to really stick to the urban areas of Fairborn & Beavercreek, and not to wonder off into the wooded / rural areas of those towns because shit can go left quick especially if your black.
@frankgilbert5148

@@LilChiefMoe7 Agree with some of what you say. But, if you want hippies, your best bet is Yellow Springs. Sadly, most of Greene County's crime does come out of Fairborn, but we still have a lot to offer. And if you haven't been here lately, come again. We have grown a lot!! The south end of town is where we have grown. The north end is looking to be reborn.

i live in fairborn and Its bad for heroin and meth. Fairborn is the only Fairborn in the world. From what i have seen in the last 21 years of living here is that those stats aren't too far off. There are ALOT of white people up in this bitch lol its mostly old people. But you don't see hate crimes reported or a lot of violence besides in a few locations where the drugs have a very strong influence. Other than that there really isn't anything to write home about. Most people in Fairborn work outside of it and it has mostly become just housing for the neighboring cities. Yes back when it was created it was very VERY racist. It is not like that today but it is still going downhill from the drugs.
