“Vaults have nothing to do with capitalism” They are called VAULTS! Not bunkers, vaults! Like a place to store currency, *human* currency!

The take that Fallout isn't about capitalism is such a fat L its shape doesn't even resemble an L anymore. The two most distinct themes are capitalism and ultra-patriotism, and it's not even remotely subtle about either of them. Liberty Prime is literally a giant walking nuke-throwing propaganda machine, and as mentioned in Tyler's semi-rant, everything is owned by like 4 corporations. So the opening blurb is "war never changes" - so what? Is he trying to imply a capitalistic society is incapable of going to war? Yes, it's about war too. And it's also about capitalism and ultra-patriotism, and surviving a post societal and ecological collapse hellscape. A setting can be about more than one thing, but that's at least one more thing than people like this can hold in their heads at one time.

Tyler being too young for fallout 1 and 2 tickles me pink. Especially since he'd have been old enough to play. Fallout 1 was very successful. 600k copies in 1997 for a pc exclusive is nothing to sneeze at. Diablo was only a little better. How much exactly, i can't say. Getting first year sales for fallout 1 is proving a chore. Btw, bg3 is the same gameplay genre. The only reason fallout 3 was different is because bethesda only has skill with their in house engine. It is probably what brought fallout into the mainstream, since top down rpgs have become quite niche, but as we can see by fallout's predecessor, wasteland, it didn't have to change. You don't have to like old games. They're often clunky and obtuse, but don't go acting like they're some unknown cuz you personally didn't hear about them.

While the Fallout show did deviate quite a lot at some points from the lore, I dont get why is ut so hard for people like Synthetic Man to compartmentalize. To me Fallout 1, 2 and New Vegas are their own thing, same as 3 and 4 and now the show. If I want 1 and 2 lore I can always go back to those games.

@@mycaleb8 yeah, I do get wanting to watch that. I dont like the show, but I dont like it on its own faults, not because what it isn't. I find maximus insufferable, the show cannot have a single quiet moment, instead blares out with loud music, The Ghoul doesnt shoot to kill when the plot demands it, I just dont buy the excuses for a lot of stuff being the character's stats and perks and while Fallout always had humor, it was never a comedy.

SOYLENT MAN?! 😂Tyler has tasted blood with Lore Lodge and is now *hunting* for more. Re: American media that's massively popular in America, but niche outside - somehow my first thought were PBS children's shows: Sesame Street is a franchising behemoth with many localized versions, but Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood seems to only have been broadcast in the US and Canada. If the ArchCast dude is Norwegian those Rs might be his native Rs, depending on where in Norway he's from. I don't think he's putting this accent on either - it's probably how he trained himself to speak English.

Sorry to hear you're going through such pain. When I was having bad pain, I would go on walks as best i could, just so I could say I moved that day. It helped psychologically, even if i was losing muscle. Also, once you get back into things, Mark Wildman has a series on training up from deconditioning, ie from an injury. Gets way into lifting nerd shit, but it was helpful for me after the vivisection

Interplay and Black Isle, who made the original Fallout games, went out of business! The success of their Fallout games was clearly not enough to keep the doors open at their studios. Do you know what the last *Fallout* game prior to Bethesda buying the IP and releasing Fallout 3 was? It wasn't Fallout 2, it was a game called Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, and it was *tragic.* It was a shift towards a more action-oriented gameplay style and designed for consoles, as trying to nab those sales might help sales. Instead of Nuka-Cola, they sold product placement rights to a real-world energy drink brand called "Bawlz," so there were just bottles of Bawlz everywhere. To go along with the Bawlz, they tried to lean hard on low-res, polygonal T&A. The soundtrack was metal music, it was awful. Brotherhood of Steel was a terrible game and it sold like cancer, which is why Black Isle isn't around any longer, and Bethesda was able to buy the rights to make new *Fallout* games. So yeah, the core audience of Fallout 1 and 2 gamers isn't enough to be sustainable. Whatever else someone might have to say about Bethesda, they know how to sell games, and the unique atmosphere and *feel* of their Fallout games have made them far more popular now than the series was in the past.

....I play Fallout 1 and 2. I also play it predessesor Wasteland and Fountain of dream for Dos. I recommend the gog version for Wasteland the music there is beautiful. Wasteland also has "true" sequels and table top game Bethesda seem to try to bring some of the weird lore in the original fallouts in Fallout 76. I wonder if they will bring ghost fully back. I think they kinda did in the wendigo challenge; didn't they had ghost whisper I can't remember I never play 76. If you like New Vegas lore try the noncanon fallout bible; it the diary of the protagonist after Fallout 1, I think that how it called. Black Isle Studio created Fallout 1, 2, tatics, the cancel Fallout 3 Van Buren, and Brotherhood of steel. When they became Obsidion they made New Vegas.
