One of my favourite Pat Martino tracks. A stunning piece of transcribing, which I will never even attampt to play. Quite superb. Folks may want to know that Pat is currently very unwell and needs support for medical and other expenses and has a gofundme page to support him.

Even the greats need medical expense assistance in the USA, that's really awful.

What i love about this is that it's not just a blur of 8 notes, which was my initial impression of PM. Lots of melodic lines and taste here as well, as well as those blazing runs.......

This is the one that got me hooked on Pat Martino back in the 70's. I was in my late teens and was fortunate to have a guitar instructor that introduced me to Pat's music, particularly this album and tune. He knew this solo note for note and taught it to me. I'm in my mid 60's now and try to play it every now and then. I can fake it pretty good but you know how that goes.

Brilliant work. I actually took a half-hearted stab at this track not long ago. The sheer velocity of the lines really adds to the difficulty, at least for me. Cheers.

If not for the accompaniment, I wouldn’t have guessed that to be Sunny. I have heard another version where it is easy to distinguish. Either way, Pat Martino = genius.

Greg Howe's version of 'Sunny', though very different, is similarly harmonically rich and inventive, well worth a listen. Pat was sublime, a gift to the guitar world.

Greg Howe? Give me a break it sounds like a bunch of noise the same way he butchers up Giant Steps. He's a good player but his take on some jazz standards just don't fit.

@@GreenDistantStar I like Howe's playing on sunny a lot. If you understand jazz you understand what he is doing. Some harmonic similarities in his approach, too . Just because he uses disotrtion doesn't mean he can't play jazz.

@@mr.b4444 Any musician who calls Greg Howes playing noise I would bet is not as very exciting player to watch and lacks a ferocious side to their playing. Sure, you can play clean Pat Martino 16th notes but Greg like myself is a rock guitarist who appreciates the sonic possibilities of jamming over a song like Sunny and combining both jazz, blues, rock & fusion. Just my two cents and I saw Greg Howe in NYC a month ago at the Iridium and the man kicked ass. On Bass was another noise maker Stu Hamm who kept the melodic low end flowing heavy the entire night.
