Cost is not a big factor. The feds pay 30%, I mean other people pay 30% since the Feds have no money, and my local utility finances the entire cost at 2% for 10 years. I went with a 39 kw Sunpower battery system, tied to a 13 kw sunpower solar, and geothermal heating. Can’t wait to get it all up and runing

I’m not surprised by the costs of the Sunpower Sunvault battery. They’ve always been more expensive than all their competitors. The funny thing is the older Sunpower mods were never supposed to develop snail trails on their modules/solar panels either, but nearly every Sunpower system with older Sunpower modules have snail trails on the modules (this is just my personal experience as a solar installer) I wonder if Maxeon and their new line up of solar panels have fixed the snail trail problem of their older solar panels.

About a 16 months ago myself and a coworker both ordered Tesla Solar with one Powerwall. We did not specify Powerwall 2+. We both got the Powerwall 2+ delivered and installed by Tesla on delivery day. I suspected they do that since the AC startup loads can require the boost of the 2+ when ordering single Powerwall. You do a lot of comparisons with Powerwall but I have not seen you compare against the more likely 2+ which seems to unfairly disadvantage Powerwall in the case where a single Powerwall is installed since it seems like an unlikely configuration. BTW, I really like your videos and am a subscriber

You mentioned that you need 3 more Tesla home batteries to back up an entire home. However, I get an entire home back up with 2 Tesla Powerwall 2 AC batteries and i go off the grid and run solely on battery when my Solar panels stops generating power everyday. My home is 2500 square ft and that includes running the AC periodically. Not super heavy but enough to stay cool so I would say anywhere from 1.5 to 3.5 hrs a day in 10 min increments depending on how hot it is. Sometimes doing few loads of laundry and drying(electric dryer) and it powers my home fine so far. Just curious why you say you need 3 powerwalls? Great video by way

SunPower is partnering with GM with their Ultium Home offering it would interesting to know if GM solution is just a rebadging of the SunVault or a totally different battery configuration?

Always enjoy the content and factual information when comparing batteries. Is there a specific reason you don't ever look into server style batteries (EG4, Jakiper, etc) when comparing? When you discuss stacking and costs - wouldn't they have an advantage there? Where PW and SV are set in capacity rigidly; you could add a 5kWh when opportunities strike.

Hi Boozy and thanks for writing in. The server rack style batteries are more for DIY projects. None of the large installers I know of are offering these with a pro installation and a warranty.

Sunpower is an all in one warranty and has way better customer service than Tesla. To give Tesla the same warranty score is completely disingenuous

I expect Powerwall III should be announced in 2nd Qtr. I don't know anything but I think they have been working on an "upgraded" version for several years now.

Another great video Joe! Really enjoy all the info you provide. As a subscriber, always look forward to your new videos! I'm still in the research phase for getting solar with battery backup. I liked your recommendation at the end of this video - possibly going with Enphase solar with microinverters paired with 3 Tesla Powerwalls for whole home backup. I also heard you can now order just the Powerwalls from Tesla - without getting solar from them - so that's a nice option. The thing that might change my mind is the two-way EV charger that Enphase will be coming out with next year - since we own two EVs - that would be nice to have that option in case of prolonged outages. That option might make me lean towards going with Enphase from start to finish. So many options out there - I really appreciate your straightforward videos explaining all the pros/cons as well as different functionalities to be aware of. I'm located in Virginia - so when we're ready to go solar, we'll definitely be giving you a call!

Tesla is really not a battery that does what is advertised this video seem biased. This video does not discuss the installation requirements and what needs to be done to install the Tesla MPU changes in most cases.
