Episodes like this are what truly seperate this show from all others. This show is a firm believer in consequences, no matter how noble or virtuous the reasoning for the action. We know Erens plight. We know he is sacrificing the world to save his friends. We know that he didn't start this war, but when we see all of the collateral damage of his actions we can't say it's worth it and we for damn sure can't say it's "right". Because the truth is there is always an unintended victim of some nature. This is what the world looks like without compassion. When the "eye for an eye" finally reaches every "eye". Maybe it's systemic, maybe it's hereditary inside our DNA, but there's something that makes us humans like this, when we have the capability to avoid it. It's depressing.... This story is brilliant and a transcendent classic.

The desire for revenge originaltes from our sense of justice and is logical. It's just that when nations or ideas centered around revenge arise, they tend to pull a lot of people who had nothing to do with it originally into the fight. It helps us rationalize the things we experience and survive the world (this was more evident before modern society when generalizations meant the difference between your family surviving or dying). It's a wonderful trait we've developed. Unfortunately, the side effect is that you miss out on the nuances. The innocent get lumped in with the guilty, so people who feel they've done nothing wrong now have a cause to hate those who wronged them. And the cycle continues. One of the lessons from this show (and why I think it's one of the most important stories ever told) is stated by Nicolo a few episodes prior. I saw a few of these, most calculated incorrectly due to proportional widths of the titans and not properly calculating the circumference of all three walls. @@wirlwend That's the point. It's a short way from the scout's fighting spirit to the Jaegerists. They lived and fought in an extreme scenario. Win or get eaten by titans. No room to negotiate. It was kind of a war for survival. While the scouts were highly professional, the root was there, even in our main characters. Remember Armin's evil speeches? Erwin's sacrifices? Then they learned the real enemies are humans, an entire world wanting their eradication. So, in a certain way nothing has changed. They are still in a war of survival. Of course some people would apply their methods and values from the war against titans to this situation. Considering the massive amount of deaths, I'm surprised the Jaegerists are so few. The show embraced massive casualties, deaths and sacrifices, an extreme discipline and the line "shinzou wo sasageyo", which literally encapsules that, in the first 3 seasons, framing the scouts and their unconditional fighting for survival as positive. And it worked. People cheered over the scouts winning, although they did gruesome atrocities, like tolerating the devastation of Stohess, countless deaths, suicide charges and, to quote it "giving up humanity". AoT literally made watchers cheer for extremists. Just look at the line. Sacrifice your heart. You offering everything you are, every memory, everything in your life, your connection to your loved ones, your sole life, to this fight. Casualties >30% in every mission. Then the Eldians learned the truth, that it is in truth a confict with the rest of the world. Would anyone really expect that they were going the peaceful way? After a life of fear, war and sacrifice? After giving up the own humanity? The outside world was a faceless, soulless threat to most of them. Nothing different to the titans. Still a war for survival. And that's why there are so many extremists on Paradis, of course using the line of the ones that fought an unwinnable war before and won.

14:45 I HOPE YOU GUYS READ THIS ♥️ Annie is an oft misunderstood character. For starters, she never once targeted noncombatants unless they were hostile first (see: Lost Girls OVA). She never purposefully went after civilians: nearly every kill she executed was after the enemy engaged her first. The few that she attacked first were ones that had already engaged her and posed a threat to her mission, like Gunther and that one Scout that was going to warn the others. Even the deaths of the people in the temple weren't totally on her because she was avoiding buildings and it was Eren who pushed her into the structure. Seriously, pay attention to the story. People are so outraged about her killing Scouts, but completely ignore that they were trying to kill her first before she'd even done anything violent, and it isn't until after the soldiers attack her that she retaliates. Rules of engagement, It’s fair game. Even the one she spun around in titan form was out to get her first. Annie actually behaved like an exemplary soldier, something that a person who's evil inside would not do. It's war, it's not personal. Her actions against enemy combatants are congruent with her inner-self. This is what we know of Annie in the story: > She grew attached to the people she came to know in the cadet program despite doing her best to be aloof and apathetic. If she hadn't, she wouldn't have spared any of them when they attacked her. She had something, like, three opportunities to kill Armin! Three! And she still didn't even though he was the smartest graduate in their class and was the most likely to discover and give her away. Which is precisely what ended up happening. >She saved Connie when he missed his titan target and bailed Marlowe out from enduring the wrath of the MiDe whan chahad maracanta do either of those things according to her own apathetic philosophy of 'going with the flow' and not resisting moral evils. If it had turned out that Reiner and Bertholdt hadn't been discovered in that moment, she would've saved Marco because she was drawn there to begin with by Marco's plea for help. And she was looking out for Armin and Connie when she tried talking them out of joining the Scouts, knowing the high mortality rate and that she'd have to abduct Eren from their watch. Armin wasn't wrong to call her a kind person. She cares more than she lets on. >She shares a bit in common with Levi: both are characters who seem to be distant and cold, but actually do care about people and show humanity to others in small, subtle ways. > She was horrified when Eren pushed her titan form into the temple building and crushed dozens of civilians, cried as Marco was devoured and and she apologized to Mina's corpse (one of her friends was always sitting infront of her in the lunch died in ep 5 ). She also had PTS-riddled nightmares (Lost Girls). She was clearly distraught and remorseful about what she had done and had to do. But it's all still very much 'a choice with no regrets,' one of the story's central themes. >She was angry at Reiner making friends with the cadets because she knew that sort of duplicity was messed up and they'd eventually have to kill them; contrary to popular consensus, this shows us that she has a concience. She also executed all her mission objectives as efficiently as she could because she wanted to leave the island as quickly as possible, to avoid prolonging the suffering. Like ripping the band-aid off. She was the most competent of the RBA trio. > She hangs around Armin a lot in the background when she has the option to be anywhere else, and she values his input enough to hear him out and have a philosophical discussion with him (when he was trying to lure her in with the 'good person' dialogue). Need I say more? It's obvious that she grew fond of him despite herself. >She's considerate enough to give a dying man a last huff from a cigar, even though he was a total stranger and a criminal, and continued to unravel the Stratman case and do Hitch the favor when she had nothing to gain from the whole ordeal (Lost Girls OVA). >And Annie-in a similar vein to Reiner-is still selfless enough to prioritize her parent despite being given no reason to care about him. This is a man who adopted her solely to use her as a golden ticket to access a better social status, overworked her throughout her childhood, and groomed her to become a child soldier. All without ever seeming to show her any affection, except at the last possible moment when she was off to join the Warrior program. And yet, Annie still has unconditional love for Moses. Both she and Reiner deserved better parents. The whole point of her arc was about overcoming apathy-it's why she goes back to assist the alliance because she knows what the right thing is, but never had the moral fortitude to stand up for it until that moment. She represents people who know the right thing to do, but lack the conviction to do it and instead respond to moral dilemmas by running from them-people who need to learn to conquer their amorality and become moral. It baffles me that so many viewers missed what was happening right in front of them and write her off as some psychopath that killed people just because. Annie outwardly gives off this impression that she's only out for herself-and even says things that could lead us to think that with her voicing that she only wants to go back to her father-but her actions are curiously juxtaposed with her external projection. She keeps her distance or even pretends not to care about others because it's more psychologically expedient for her, but she really does care, as shown through her reflexive acts of kindness. Her story is the story of a person who tried to stamp out her humanity and failed miserably. Annie became one of my favorite characters in the narrative because she's written with a lot of nuance when it would've been so much easier to make her outright despicable with zero depth. It makes her interesting.

I did some math based on the estimated circumference of each wall, assuming each titan has similar proportions to a regular human, you would be able to fit almost 1 million titans into the walls. This assumes the titans are standing shoulder to shoulder and each wall is a perfect circle and assuming the titans are only one layer thick and that there are no titans below the walls. If you assume the titans are thinner than humans proportionally, which they appear to be, and using a reasonable proportion you could get up to 1.2 million, if you assume the inner walls are double layered, you could go up to 2 million. If you assume Ymir is making more titans out of thin air, then anything is possible.

He did not tell them because they failed him and blamed him guilted him and pressured him because of THEIR failings. None of this is spoiler it has happened already. Bring told pressured by Armin to abandon his humanity and become a monster while he himself never did this or had to. Even as a titan and he repeatedly still pressured Eren to do that. Knwoing it was not the only way as Jean asked him at end of S1, he knew it was not the only way but the pressure kept on. Jean guilting Eren to do so by always rubbing the countless deaths even thiught they are soldiers and sadly but dryly death is a 50/50 chance in that field. Getting captured 3 times because he listened to everyone else but himself. 1) fr listening to levi squad, getting themselves killed, and being left alone to fight Annie thus getting captured. 2) listening to Armin and Hanji to come closer to the wall instead of fighting Reiner in the open field. If he had stayed fighting he would have beat him. But he listened to them, and got captured because bErtold was close and tackled him form above 2 to 1. 3) he listened and trusted Levi's plan to be a decoy and got captured with Historia by Kenny. And then Hanji tells him he got himself captured. When they put him in that position and blame him guilt him and presure him for all deaths caused. (This is why in the 2nd OP Armin has a rain of blood on him. Because it was his mistake that caused it but he seems to not notice, he is not admitting it). Then levi thinking Eren was a hope when he was just a 15 year old. And again, clearly breaking before them after the basement. So many instances that Eren came to conclude they are in fact not reliable and trustworthy. Also ppl forget to pay attention to Eren's behaviour. He did not want Zeke to yell and make everyone pure titans. That's why said "wait". Because he used Flock for his plan but was never on board. So that Zeke and Yelena would not suspect him. And the others, with their unreliability would not mess it up. Because he only had that one chance. Not excusing him but form his situation... it sadly makes sense.

@@GregSmithIII Isn't it implied he would do exactly that? His dream was to find out the truth, which would have ended in the basement, and that is why Levi chose Armin; because he knew Armin's dream would take them beyond the walls and "out of the forest", so to speak.

its sunday evening here as i type this comment. i had 1 week off. i spend first 4 days doing extravagant things and then fri-sat-sun, i watched all 87 videos of this AOT playlist. tomorrow back to work, building new projects, dunno if i would return for more videos probably after 2 months. BUT, it was nice re-watching and experiencing this masterpiece with two amazing girls. if there was a real world AOT, kiss would be historia and hayley would have been mikasa 😂

15:06 "Everyone is a little bit selfish." Just as Kenny once said, "Everyone had to be drunk on something to keep going on." Everyone is a slave to something. No one is truly "free" because they are slaves to their desires. Eren's a slave to the idea of freedom.

To be honest.. it was there all along.. since episode 1 season 1. Eren said many times that he wants to kill every single enemy.. Every single titan ( as titans were the only enemies back then). Nothing changed... the world is his enemy, so just like he said in the 1st episode, he will kill them all. In fact it's the most consistant thing ever.
