Squirrel cutaway is the shizzle. Narrow base for easy turning and larger tip for noseriding ♥️🤙🏽. Yewwww

Sounds like the perfect fin! Starboard also have a similar concept with their fins in the inflatable range. But agree with the noseriding!

Hi, I have a 10' longboard SUP with a five fin set up. All the boxes are future fin so I dont have a lot of choice when it comes to riding it as a single fin. Wondering if you could recommend a 2 + 1 setup from future fin (or anything compatible) where the center fin is a bit longer than the side fins. I enjoy noseriding but would like to be able to have some maneuverability as well, kind of a happy medium. Any suggestions for optimal fin set up for sup longboard surfing would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi Josh, it's hard to find big centre fins when there are futures or fcs boxes. I'd suggest looking for XL sized fins, but going further from that, try getting a hold of large Twin Fin sides. You can always stick in the biggest centre fin you can find from futures. I know it's not ideal but its the best you can do with what you have. Look for fins above 5.6" in height. There's a few on the futures site. Hope this helps, Beau

You can measure fins from the base to the tip to get their height. You will usually find the sizes are around 4.5" for the side fins. Hope this helps. Beau

I was gifted a second hand SUP that’s missing the smaller side fin. Leaving me with one large and one small. Is this gonna be an issue?

Yes, it will. Best to remove the side fin if the middle one is big enough! Or buy some cheaper side fins / replacement. Take the side fin into your local surf shop and they would be happy to sort you a similar one to match it. Thanks, beau

Yes just use the back one. You probably have a SUP that can be windsurfed. They are supplied with a centre fin as-well. Thanks Reuben

5 fins are completely useless... The only reason you have 5 fin slots on many paddleboards is to switch between truster and quad, which will greatly change the way the board behaves: thruster is more manuevrable, pivoting and must be pumped to generate speed; quad needs less pumping, it's faster, has more traction, and it's for powerful carving turns. Surfers at big wave spots use quads and they do a perfect job of holding waves, no need for 5 fins, you will only get the worse characteristics of the two set-ups and a lot of drag.

Agree with this 100%. I have experimented with quad set ups + a small ‘knubster’ fin in the box. Kelly Slater brought it out a while back and still rides them. I’d say the fin is the height of your thumb and acts as a stabiliser for hold and grab with quad fins during turns. But yes, 5 full fins in the board just create a lot of drag. Cheers, Beau

i got two small fins and 1 bigger one in the back, what if i add another big fin right in front of it, will having 2 big fins in strain line make board more stable?
@SUPboardermag

Yes it would make it more stable because you are increasing the overall surface area. It would slow you down as well tho. Thanks Reuben

Why show pro surfer footage if this is aimed at beginners?

Fair point and we will try and get better beginner footage. But it's good to show what people can aspire to.
