I can't see how you can say that you're a Washington fan and think that it was a mistake for Coach Gibbs to start Doug Williams over Jay Schroeder in the SB? Obviously Coach Gibbs knew something you didn't because he was a professional football coach and you were not. His very wise coaching decision to start Doug Williams was the best one and it worked out well for Doug and for the team as Washington was victorious in the Super Bowl winning 42-10 and Doug Williams had one of the greatest performances of any starting QB in Super Bowl history winning the MVP award. It's the same problem we had with Gruden and Cousins in DC: great in the first two quarters when they were running their script, helpless when the script ran out after the break. Joe Gibbs did not believe in that approach, which is why his teams had these comebacks in the second and third quarters of so many big games. They took the best shot of the opponents and then took over once it was done. Unlike the Broncos and early 90s Bills he also kept it simple. He essentially ran tiny variations of the same play for a decade. Of course, the advantage of that was that his teams got really good at running that one play. No hesitation or confusion in big games either.

The Skins scored 35 of their 42 points in the second quarter. It's still the highest scoring quarter by any team in Super Bowl history. So yes, we may never see a quarter like that again. And Corey, prior to Super Bowl LI, this Super Bowl had the record for the biggest comeback, as the Skins were down 10-0 after the first quarter. The Patriots broke that record by coming back against the Falcons after being down 25 points in the third quarter.

I feel in these 2 Super Bowls Denver Let the Giants and the Redskins hang around instead of putting them away, to many mistakes and miscues hurt them, they we’re so fired up that they forgot how to finish them! The 49er game what can you say ? Joe is that good and they had a lot of weapons too, I was only 9-12 years old when i experienced these games, I’m however a die hard cowboy fan ,the same things I saw against Buffalo they just couldn’t finish, NYG ,Washington and Dallas had to many weapons on there teams I’m also a patriots fan so I remember when they got blown away by the bears in SB 20 (46-10) I never wore my sweater ever again I could never hear the end of it!!!! Now that they have Brady I’m happy to have experienced watching him play , but Troy Aikman and Joe Montana Will always be my long-time hero’s as a kid growing up. Now as a football coach I enjoy Watching Bill Belichick more on how he approaches his games and how he adjusts to them. I do love football 🏈 best sport ever invented

The broncos defensive front 7 was the lightest in the NFL just by watching you can see how much physically bigger and stronger the redskins were. Miracle the broncos reached the superbowl they had no running game and relied on Elway.

It's hilarious because Dierdoff says Elway can comeback... they have a good passing game, a good running game. I think they ran the ball like 5 times total. No running game whatsoever

Denver missed a few chances to put their foot on Washington's throat, though. The second drive stalled at the 6, and their next two drives got to the Washington 30 and 36, respectively, before fizzling out. The Broncos had their chances. It might have ended in a Falcons'-like collapse, but Denver had a shot to go up by a lot early, and blew it

Dumbest move in NFL history is when Hugh Culverhouse, owner of the Buccaneers, decided to try and screw Doug Williams by paying him less than a third string quarterback. That disrespect is what took Doug to Washington and on to his first Super Bowl.

Thats not Culverhouse's dumbest move. Drafting Bo Jackson 1st overall after screwing up his college eligibility and Bo straight up telling everyone, "I'm not going to Tampa Bay" is completely moronic. But Culverhouse was a notorious cheapsake.

This game....was basically Nirvana for me and everyone in my freshman class at Morehouse. People tend to forget the context. The way the white racist league was f*cking over black quarterbacks was criminal. At this point, they had even f*cked over a guy who was arguably the greatest QB of the 20th century in Warren Moon. In THIS context, we enter the 87-88 superbowl...and because of an injury, a back-up QB gets the start in Doug Williams, who had already led a team to the NFC championship years before, but had been COMPLETELY forgotten about. To see the NFL and media have to endure a situation they had done EVERYTHING in their power to avoid, which was to see a black man start as QB in the SB.... and then, to see him not just win, but torch the high-favored Broncos with Elway......was just a Priceless moment. My vocal chords still haven't completely recovered from this game.
