AEK means (Athletic Union of Constantinople). Costantinople is today known as Istanbul and AEK (like PAOK or panionios) was founded by Greek refugees from Constantinople. That‘s the reason for their stadium‘s name

Yeah, not the fanciest stadiums in Europe for sure. However, PAOK FC and Panathinaikos (and actually Aris FC, if the rumours are true) are planning on building new stadiums. PAOK's stadium will be built in the exact same location of where Toumba stadium sits now (basically, all the paperwork is done and it's now in the scheduling process). Hopefully, in a few years time, at least 50% of Greece's top league stadiums will be in an acceptable standard, if not better. As for the number 13 that you mentioned, Greek football fan firms get their names from the location that they sit in their respective stadiums. For example, the Panathinaikos' most important fan firm sits in the stands of Gate 13, PAOK's sit at the stands of Gate 4, Olympiacos are Gate 7, AEK are Gate 21, Aris are Gate 3, etc. Fan fact about Toumba stadium: When it was getting built back in the '50s, fans from all over Thessaloniki and near by townships, would go to the stadium after finishing work and on the weekends, to help with the construction. As a Greek who lives in Oz for the past 20 years, big cheers for this video mate!

Fun fact, for the Athenian and Salonikan derbies (and games between teams from those cities) they use referees from other countries because the clubs don’t trust the Greek refs to call the games fairly and keep them under control. The last straw was in 2018 when PAOK’s owner ran onto the pitch with a gun to protest a disallowed goal, and that led to the league being suspended for a couple weeks and foreign refs being brought in for the big games.
@ProedrosMeOnoma

Actually that incident took the championship away from PAOK and created a huge reaction from PAOK that led to the league bringing refs from other countries and also bringing VAR. Still the corruption in greek football is leading the way.

Toumba stadium has its seating rows laid out to the style (banking, rows, diazoma, cunei) of ancient greek amphiteaters providing excellent acoustics. Plus the big roof over the main stand (gates 2,1,3) bounces the noise from the north curve (Gate 4) across the field to the south east corner of the stadium, creating the legendary atmosphere. Then again i heard this from one guy from Dendropotamos stinking of weed that hopped to gate 5 from gate 4 to grab a hot dog during a match against panathinaikos, take it with a grain of salt

I really like the AEK stadium and their crest, I suppose it is an Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium) two headed Eagle. Imperial/modern Russia and the Holy Roman Empire have also used this symbol. I love the way many of the Greek stadiums are built right into the neighbourhood around them, looks like a great place to watch a match and hang out before and after. Maybe too many running tracks in this league if I am being critical but I also really like Theodoros Vardinogiannis Stadium, Kleanthis Vikelidis Stadium, Leoforos Alexandras Stadium, Panetolikis Stadium and Toumba Stadium I'd love to see a match in any of these. I think the Greeks have a lot to be proud of with these stadiums. edit: I see PAOK has the two headed ego crest that I love too!!!
@isaak4416
Жыл бұрын
AEK's crest and colours are a direct copy of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople (The head of the Greek Orthodox Church), which is understandable, given the fact that its founders were all refugees from Konstantinople (modern day Istanbul). PAOK's (which stands for Panthessalonikian Athletic Club of Konstantinopolitans) origins are from the same place, however, when the club was first formed in Thessaloniki it had a four leaf clover and a horse shoe (it is considered a symbol of good luck) for it's crest. PAOK was the continuation of Peran Club, an athletic club of Greek people, back in Istanbul. Later on, it was decided that PAOK should stand for all refugees of Asia Minor who lived in Thessaloniki and with the absorption of AEK Thessaloniki, it was decided that the crest would be changed. The same two headed eagle was chosen but the founders did not want to have the exact same replica mentioned above. This is why its wings in this case are closed, to represent the sorrow of loosing their motherland. One head looks to the east, the motherland, one head looks to the west, the new home, black is again to represent the sorrow of the lost motherland and white represents the new hope. I hope that covers it.

@@kostasoly9318 sometimes new stadiums are good yes but sometimes clubs and supporters lose something when they build new ones. I assume you are Greek if not my apologies but a saying we have in the English speaking world is "be careful what you wish for". Many of them seem small but they look like they have character and history which is something that can't be bought or built overnight. I appreciate your views, you likely know way more about Greece and Greek football than me but these are my opinions from watching the video. I would love to watch a match in many of these, I'd be so happy to get the chance. It might not be Real Madrid vs Liverpool or something like that but it doesn't have to be to be a good experience. Πολύ μεροληπτικά πλάνα .Στο γήπεδο του Λεβαδειακού δεν δείχνει την κυρία εξέδρα και έχει φωτό από μια γωνιά από έξω. Έλεος.

For the Greek League and what it represents,the stadiums are more than enough. Amenities are almost nonexistent,rowdyism is rampant ,the ...spectacle is mostly very inferior,as attested by the fact that Greek teams have been doing so badly in Europe in recent years and this must be the only league which does not allow the presence of away fans. Pathetic !

Seriously man, if your doing Greece you need to Turkey. They have some fantastic stadiums. I mean the league is run like shit, but the stadiums are top notch
