The track Chozo Statue Awakens (aka "Tension before a Confrontation, Torizo version" or "Torizo Awakening") from Super Metroid, played on the original sound modules and recorded in high quality. This is essentially what a "CD version" of the track might have sounded like.
Unlike certain other "restorations" by other people, this one was recorded from the original sound modules and samplers, using the full multisampled patches with all their additional behavior like filters, EGs, …; no broken sample translation or inaccurate Kontakt/sf2 "instruments" involved. In addition, I used an effects units (Korg A1) to add a bit of reverb. Although the SNES could never compute effects like this, the A1 was available when Super Metroid was developed.
I know that this track sounds slightly different than the original in-game version, but this has mainly to do with the fact that the Proteus/1 "F. Horn Sect" has more samples so they get less pitch shifted than in the game. The mixing might also be slightly different of course.
I also know that the S-550 was probably not used in Super Metroid, and it seems like some Emulator II or Emax was used instead. However, for the sound used in this track, it absolutely doesn't matter. This difference is probably only relevant for sounds which are missing in the S-550 version of the relevant sample CD.
Enjoy this "restored" "CD quality" version of the track.
