UPDATE: to jump into a fast morph ball, it is much easier, and may be required, to hold the jump button down when you press down and right/left as you are morphing.
Super Metroid for the SNES is a particularly replayable game due to its polish, fun gameplay, and the fact that it times how long you play the game. Therefore, many people have speed run the game in order to finish it in the shortest time possible, and this has been aided by the fact that Samus has extra abilities in the game that allow her to bypass certain upgrades, plus the fact that so many have played this game that they have found time saving glitches.
This brief video will give an overview of some of the most important sequence breaks and glitches for getting a short play time. Some of the notable items and events skipped are the mid bosses of Brinstar and Norfair, the grapple beam, and the screw attack. Many of the sequence breaks and glitches were found by other players. I hope you find this video enjoyable and useful.
In this playthrough, I finished with 47 minutes of in game time, 33% of the items collected, and it took me about an hour and ten minutes of real time.
