I'm so glad that a lot of people seem to be talking about this series recently. It was always one of my favorites, and it really sucks how they never really made any good ones after the Gamecube.

I’ve recently been thinking about the series lately, particularly SMB2 since that’s the one I grew up with. I was worried that the series would be too niche so I’m glad people are enjoying it! Figures crossed for SMB Deluxe HD

Can't believe you beat master but said monkey target was too hard... once you figure out how to deal with the wind it's a pretty fun and rewarding minigame.

Haha, I just realized how funny that sounds now! I’ll admit I only spent an hour or two trying not to figure it out so I’m sure if I put more time into it, I would have been able to get better.

One of my favourite GameCube games of all time alongside Monkey Ball 2, they were so good. A really well-made video, keep up the good work!

Just a quick tip: Never make a secondary channel until you have a much much larger fan base, that way all content is in one place

Thanks for the advice! The secondary channel was originally an LP channel my friends and I had but the project was abandoned so I just kinda adopted it.

Fun Fact: Master was originally a 100 stage difficulty, but was demoted to Expert Extra Extra because 100 stages was too long for an arcade game.

Turns out the unforgiving conditions for Beginner and Advanced Extra are lessened in every version of the GC version except the US version. And they said that Super Mario Bros 2 JP was too hard for NA.

I feel like your assessment about the Master stages being kinda annoyingly gimmicky is something that I'd apply to pretty much the entire second game. The level design of 2 never had that hard grip on me that the first game's did. I'm not a fan of the "just go backwards and hit the switch that makes the level play at a reasonable speed" design of the moving-parts levels. I'm not a fan of how every level has the same huge starting platform. I'm not a fan of how wide and flat things tend to be, even in Expert and Master. I'm not a fan of how most levels are ridiculously short showcases of a single use of a single gimmick, ending immediately with no satisfying buildup or conclusion. They even managed to make the bonus rounds more annoying somehow, with them taking way more time and being overall harder to get bananas in. This isn't even getting into the game's highly-erratic difficulty curve, where even Expert and Master feel mostly Advanced-tier (or easier!) with the occasional odd difficulty spike-the difficulty spike usually being the weird gimmick level that takes a substantial amount of trial and error to understand. I don't know. 2 just doesn't feel satisfying to me. It feels like the level design philosophy is all wrong, like it's designed with the assumption that you have an infinite amount of lives to just keep grinding away at a level with. 1 had its own problems with the occasional weird level or huge difficulty spike, but the problems felt way more isolated than they do in 2. Also, Competition Mode is the best feature ever. There is nothing more fun than rushing through levels like idiots with a friend desperately trying to get some cool trick and make it to the goal first. I will throw fists over this. I really hope the remake brings it back and lets us play all the levels from 2 and DX with it.

7:18 in those situations you’re supposed to use the minimap on the bottom right to see what’s below you. You can press A to adjust how zoomed in it is.
