I know! It astonishes me that Sega have never ported or remastered this for anything else. They’re literally just sitting on a great game that pretty much nobody can play. But hey, I guess that’s just what Sega do at this point... Either that or just have tons of IPs and do nothing with them for eons! I’m still waiting for a new Crazy Taxi...

Definitely an underrated gem of a game, if the next game in the series does well then hopefully we'll see this game get remastered for other consoles. Also, to unlock the different skins, you'll have to complete 250 stages with each character to get their respective costume. Sure, it seems like a lot (and it is), but by the time I beat Advanced I had 2 out of the 4 unlocked (Seriously, the later stages of the game are RELENTLESS).

It would be nice to at least see some of these levels implemented into a new game, even if we don't see a full on remaster, that would still be nice. Ooh, that makes sense now that I think about it because there's a trophy for doing that as well! I'm glad you've cleared that up, it's awesome that you can unlock something extra like that! I hope we see skins featured more heavily in the next game, it's something I've always like the idea of but they've never really gone all out with it. You must be pretty good to have beaten Advanced! It is seriously tough... I've not even managed to get past the damn cowboy levels yet :( to be fair though I've been distracted by other games at the moment so I've not been practicing much!

I just had a perfect idea for some more story details for this game! I even thought up an ending! After several days of MeeMee playing with the board game, she picks it up again and attempts to roll the ball around, but the ball refuses to move. She looks a little bit closer, thinking the little tin AiAi in the ball just fell over or something, but then she has a horrifying realization… that’s the real AiAi! Everyone thought he had just gone missing, but he was right under MeeMee’s nose the whole time! And it seems like AiAi’s several days trapped in there have taken their toll on him. Having not been able to see any of his loved ones, or eat a single banana, AiAi’s been reduced to a sobbing mess. A puddle of AiAi’s tears has formed at the bottom of the Monkey Ball. Knowing what she now has to do, MeeMee hurries over to Doctor, while making sure AiAi doesn’t fall out of the toy. Doctor carefully removes AiAi from the toy, and adds in a special GOAL for AiAi to run through. MeeMee carefully places AiAi back in the toy. Weakened and unable to run because of the puddle of tears inside the ball, AiAi slowly rolls the Monkey Ball through the goal, with MeeMee giving the toy a little tilt to help AiAi out. Upon rolling through the GOAL, the Monkey Ball begins to float in the air before it - and AiAi - turn into an orb of light that goes flying out of Doctor’s workshop. The orb stops moving above the Monkey’s Village on Monkey Island, and expands to about the size of a normal Monkey Ball. The orb then transforms back into the Monkey Ball, with AiAi inside of it. AiAi comes to, and realizes the he’s back to his normal size. He hurriedly opens the ball up and jumps out of it, throwing himself into MeeMee’s arms. The residents of Monkey Island rejoice at the return of AiAi, who’s not even remotely thinking about bananas at this point. He’s just happy to be home with his loved ones. Until a certain something rears it’s ugly hands… AiAi’s alarm clock! The same one that trapped him inside the toy! And it seems ready to do it again… AiAi goes completely bonkers. He grabs the clock before it has a chance to attack him, and beats every last bolt out of it. Smashing it against palm trees, trying to break it over his knee, running over it with the Monkey Ball, he quite literally goes apesh*t! Once all is said and done, and the clock is left a small pile of bolts and gears on the ground, AiAi… passes out. AiAi eventually wakes up in his home, with MeeMee and Baby by his side, while being treated by Doctor. MeeMee: “AiAi?” AiAi: “What is it, MeeMee?” MeeMee: “I think I know why your alarm clock tried to attack you.” AiAi: “Really?” MeeMee: “Yeah… look at this.” * MeeMee shows AiAi the company tag that was on the alarm clock * AiAi: “B.B.I.? What’s that?” MeeMee: “Bad Boon Industries.” AiAi: “You mean Dr. Bad Boon made that alarm clock?!” MeeMee: “Yep… I think he made it to get rid of you so he could marry me. He attacked Monkey Island a few times while you were trapped in that Super Monkey Ball toy.” AiAi: “I am gonna… *Sigh*… I was about to say I was gonna beat the bananas out of him, but I’m way too tired for that. I need to take, like, a week off from anything Super Monkey Ball related, because I hated every second I spent in that toy. I couldn’t eat any bananas, I couldn’t drink any real water, and worst of all, I couldn’t spend any time with you and Baby.” MeeMee: “Hm… wouldn’t you usually reverse those first and third points there?” AiAi: “Usually, but not anymore. I don’t really care about bananas right now. I’m just happy to be back home with you and the others again, not having to worry about being separated from you by a bloodthirsty alarm clock.” MeeMee: “Aww, AiAi…” * AiAi, MeeMee, and Baby all embrace each other * *THE END* * Roll credits *

That's interesting... I wonder if it works better than in Banana Splitz! Those motion controls seem harmless until you decide to get all the trophies. One of the trophies requires that you complete every level using motion controls, and some of the later levels of advanced mode are really tough. It doesn’t help that there’s pretty much no information on this game anywhere, especially for such a specific element of the game. On the whole I agree with pretty much everything in this review though, it is a genuinely good Monkey Ball game. It’s too bad it had to be relegated to such an obscure platform.

I saw that was a trophy and I decided then and there that I’m never going to even attempt to get the platinum on it just based on that haha! I literally made an ambient tune that could be used legitly in Manhunt 3, and Rockstar still has not made a third one. 24:44 oh yeah this minigame looks really cool, this looks like a good game to play with your partner as you described 25:35 what a boss, oh yeah now I kinda want a Vita too haha, is this the original with the gorgeous OLED? 27:59 jeez this game looks so good on a portable, what framerate is it, bro? oh, btw I remember 3DS and Vita have this game called Virtue's Last Reward, played it? 31:06 woow Dr. Pepper? Been ages since I had one, it is like Coca Cola, right? 31:21 lmaooo I actually got scared a bit haha yeah I don't even have a Vita or a girlfriend so I have to shake another thing up and down enjoyed the marathon very much :)

The way that each level theme has it's own distinct obstacles is really cool, it's one of my favourite things about the whole game! I actually like both of the games' soundtracks, but the first and second games are definitely a lot better overall. The one in Banana Splitz is pretty solid though! Yeah after playing Banana Splitz I can say without a doubt that Banana Blitz wouldn't have been the easiest game to port. Like I said in the review, Splitz already had HD graphics, it already had analogue controls and it already had online leaderboards. The biggest thing they would have needed to change is the minigames, but they did that with Banana Blitz HD, so it would have been possible here too. I'm glad Nick Robinson has given a lot more publicity to Super Monkey Ball, hopefully if they're truly listening to fans now, the next game will be good. Maybe one day we'll see an F-Zero collection on the Switch... But knowing Nintendo, I doubt it haha! Yeah, it's the OLED Vita, it's actually also the 3G version, so if I wanted I could put a sim card in it and connect it to the internet from anywhere! I won't be doing that though haha, it's a bit pointless really considering the Vita won't have anyone playing any of it's games online anymore! I think the framerate is 30fps... I could be wrong there though... The footage I recorded from the PS TV was in 30fps so I'm going to go with that! I've never played Virtue's Last Reward, is it good? Haha, Dr Pepper is a favourite of mine and my girlfriend's! But yeah I suppose it's a little bit similar to Coca Cola, only a bit fruitier! It's kinda difficult describing the taste though! Hahaha! :D I'm glad you enjoyed the marathon! Now I'm hard at work for the next marathon... Lots of Oddworld content is coming soon!

ah Sega.... this is still a Vita exclusive, GX is still a Gamecube exclusive, but bruh Daytona USA 2 has not even been ported to a home console and to this day I cant emulate the arcade version

Yeah Sega seem to be really bad at preserving their games by making them accessible. Even with Sonic 3 they haven't been putting that on newer consoles and that's literally their flagship series! It's pretty insane that Daytona USA 2 hasn't had a port of any kind though...

Gx being an exclusive is Nintendo’s fault. It’s their call to port the game.

Yeah that’s true actually. Nintendo seem to have a fear of doing anything significant with F-Zero haha! 😂

Gimmicks can be fun. Come on

Oh for sure they can! I love gimmicky stuff but it has to be fun to use and well implemented into the experience and I don't really feel like any of the minigames here were particularly fun. They felt more like tech demos than anything else, which to be fair did showcase some of the things the Vita could do, but it's not a reason I would go back to this game. Something like Wii Fit or NintendoLand though, I would definitely revisit those and they're about as gimmicky as you can get!

I don’t understand the hate for banana blitz, sure it’s responsible for the decline of the series, but it wasn’t the culmination of its decline. There are definitely much worse games in the series. Step and roll and 3D come to mind. It’s an okay game in retrospect. Definitely shouldn’t be called the worst in the series imo.

I don’t outright hate Banana Blitz, it’s definitely possible to have fun with it and it does have a few good elements. I completely disagree that Step and Roll and 3D are worse though. Step and Roll turned out to literally be one of my favourites in the whole series haha! I’ve reviewed all of the other Monkey Ball games too if you’re interested in why I think that 😀 I 100% stand by the fact that Banana Blitz is the worst in the series though. The later ones all tend to do something more interesting or just straight up better than this one!

@@PixelPursuit idk man. The level design in 3D and step and roll just look so boring and basic. And I honestly think that while the motion controls suck, they’re learnable and I’ve actually been able to appreciate the game more. The level design is quite flawed and the game is pretty average overall but it does have its high points. I love the soundtrack, and I did enjoy the platforming for what it’s worth. Cobalt caverns was a fun and challenging world, though I haven’t decided to beat the next world yet. It also has some great merit as a speed running game as you can pull off some great skips like the older titles. I’m aware that it’s not a great game but I feel like step and roll really suffered from having to accommodate the balance board and 3D just looks way too basic and simple. The jump button, while it probably betrays the main appeal of the series at least helps banana blitz stand out more instead of being a standard pale imitation of the previous games. Looking through the footage of banana blitz actually makes me want to play it unlike some of the other modern titles. And tbh I’ve said this on another video before regarding the HD remaster. I can’t say for sure since I haven’t played that version but the physics for some reason just look a lot less fun than the original. The animations might be throwing me off though.

The thing with Step and Roll is that while the level design is maybe a little bit basic, it's not so simple that it's completely unengaging but it's not so difficult that it feels like it wasn't designed with motion controls in mind. I absolutely love the co-op mode in Step and Roll as well, that's by far the best way of experiencing the game. The soundtrack of Step and Roll is way, way better than Banana Blitz in my opinion too, certain tracks still remain stuck in my head to this day haha! It's strange how different our opinions are on this because yet again, I would actually argue that Step and Roll wasn't designed with the Balance Board in mind at all, it feels to me like it was designed entirely around the Wiimote and then they tacked on the Balance Board afterwards. Whereas Banana Blitz feels far too difficult at times to be played with motion controls. I'm not sure if the physics are actually different but they most definitely feel different just due to the controls being so different between the two versions. You have a lot more control over everything in HD, which could be what you're picking up on when watching footage! :D

@@PixelPursuit I actually really liked banana blitz OST. In fact I actually prefer it over the older games as I tend to favour music with more prominent melodies. Of course I’m referring to the Wii’s soundtrack not HD’s. I loved the menu music, monkey island, smooth Sherbert, bonus stage and the touch and roll monkey fight remix in particular.
