We're finally getting to the point where my Super Spear 3D printed plane is surviving more than two flights and is now able to be speed tested. Build 13, with build 12's wings, reached a maximum speed of 169 mph as measured by GPS.
It was printed with Bambu PLA Aero, 2 layers, 10% grid infill. Then it was spackled and covered with 1.5 oz. fiberglass cloth applied with Minmax WBPU (tried Behr, NG).
It's powered by an FMS 70mm 2200 kV EDF, ZTW Beatles 80A ESC, and Turnigy Nanotech 6S 2650 mAh battery. AUW is 1510 grams.
I'm using a FrSky ArcherPlus SR10+ receiver in full stabilization mode for hand-launched takeoffs to ensure the model is stable even if I am slow getting on the sticks. Then it's switched to rate stabilization for the remainder of the flight.
Build 14 is almost ready for flight. If all goes well, I will make the files available for download. I'll also be experimenting with printing in ASA Aero as I'd like to paint the model with bold colors for visibility and not worry about it melting.
