He can certainly make a beautiful prototype, and this looks like fun to use. I'd like to be positive about it, but 3.5 years after collecting money on Kickstarter, the SB01 still isn't shipping. As someone who put money down, it's difficult to get excited about product #2 when no one has finished product #1 in hand. I've been on other crowd funded projects that took 3 years. I'm still waiting on Osmose as well, though I know a lot of people who have theirs now. He could be more transparent about the process and timeline to the people who spent close to a grand on the original Kickstarter.

@@milk_bath the SBO1 started well before the pandemic and chip shortage, and while they were no doubt affected, so was everyone else. And yet DinSync managed to fully replicate the TR-909, the TR-808, and the SH-101 in the same time. They don’t sell assembled products, but they get you all the rare parts and the case. Kumtronics can do assembly for you. It’s not like these have STM chips in them. I’ll give it that they went for a custom case and keyboard. But even that could have been ironed out in 3.5 years.

A truly lovely idea that reminds me of that Teenage Engeering starter thing. The only trouble is it swounds like it's going to be expensive which is going to utterly defeat it's purpose for most people- being a starter kit.

@crunchyfrog555
Жыл бұрын
@@andrewsmall4865 Well that's not really the point. You can get synths that offer basic stuff, and introductory features cheaper, but it's nice to have a dedicated purpose built synth for newcomers so it's easy for them to get into - a bit like how electronics kits used to be. They were were basic things that were more expensive than just buying the components yet that wasn't the point. But I fear that this'll be TOO expensive even then. It would be better for him to cut the corners like using a plastic shell.

@@andrewsmall4865 Well first of all, neutron was a ripoff of SSF Bantam, and they released it before the bantam was done prototyping. Also does this have voltage control over envelope time and lfo speed? i cant remember, but thats pretty rare in a semi modular.

playing devil's advocate if it's designed well and sounds good maybe they won't sell it on reverb for other gear after they're done learning

2k for non kickstarter on the space bee. But it's probably just the Monolab using an 'expensive' design language. I.e. people have been learning from Apple that anything anodized aluminium should be revered religiously and demands an according pecuniary sacrifice.

true honestly wondering why someone hasn't already made a fully digital semi- modular lap synth like this. THAT would be a killer idea. Looking at you Korg. you could have all the benefit of hands on, but you could implement Sinusoidal fm super cheap. I'm imagining something like the capabilities of Schlappi's Three Body, but with a form factor like the Male Noise stuff.
