Lorne Micheals--the creator and Executive Producer of Saturday Night Live says, "the first thing an audience looks for in a comedian is confidence." You know what an audience despises in a comedian? A lack of authenticity. When you are learning how to do stand-up comedy, you should not only be learning how to tell a joke, you should be learning how to communicate efficiently, effectively and believably.
So many comedians miss this very important dynamic. One of the biggest mistakes comedians make with an audience is they confuse real enthusiasm and energy with volume. They address the audience by yelling: "HOW YOU GUYS DOING?!"
I this video, Jerry Corley demonstrates, how to take the stage COLD and warm the audience up immediately, make them feel welcome and like it's a party and putting the audience right where they need to be for the performers.
