Those rolldown rear seat windows are insanely cool. Though also hilarious because if I know my Japanese 2-seaters, those back seats are not meant for people.

I have ordered parts from Atkins rotary in the last year. They have everything you could need to repair or upgrade a rotary. Excellent customer service and prompt delivery, I definitely suggest to check them out for your rotary parts needs.

It's nice to see forgotten classic cars like that Mazda Cosmo in good condition and running! Definitely something you don't see everyday.^^ Also, I really enjoyed the review so much, Zack.

I love that rear quarter view. It looks like someone shrunk a Dodge Aspen coupe and stuck the rear light clusters from a Hillman Avenger on... which doesn't sound like a compliment but I absolutely mean it as one.

Oh hell yes! That thing looks badass! Why drive a Mustang, Camara, Supra, Z-car, etc, when you can drive this? The styling was the pinnacle of 70s Japanese car coolness. Two-tone paint is cool, but I'd take this one in all-red with a 5 speed manual instead of that auto tragic, especially linked up to a supercharged, rotary engine. 1976 Mazda Cosmo FTW!

I owned 1. 76. AT. It was cool as all get out and I think the worst car I ever owned. It was 4 years old and already rusting! NJ road salt. Dad helped negotiate a decent trade in and I got a gorgeous metallic Grey 1980 Scirocco. 5 speed manual! Great car!

There's one of these for sale near me, I'm actually looking into picking it up. Your video came up while I was doing my "research". Great video, thanks for sharing! That little "Rotary Engine" badge is killer. As I type this, I realize it's one of the things I appreciate a lot about my own vehicles. Unique vintage badging rules.

Great review, sweet rare ride, I am jealous we didn't get these beauties here . One thing to say the Mazda Cosmo to my belief was the only other place to sell it as the Mazda Cosmo , export markets called it either the RX5 or the 121 ironically , in Japan these were sold as the AP/CD Cosmo from 75'-81' when it was replaced by the HB Cosmo , it was sold in this fast/Sportback style aswell as a Landau surprisingly , the car is also related to the Mazda Luce which was basically a 4 door Cosmo (it intergrated to be a Cosmo in the middle of the HBs production)

My 2nd car was a '76 Cosmo. Great car! Mine was a white with green velour 5 speed stick. 110 horsepower was hot for the day! (0-60 mph in 10.2 seconds) I drove it 96,000 miles and the only repair was the main fuse.

Nice, I knew of the RX-5 and assumed that it was sold in the US as the RX-5 if it was sold. I also knew of the original 1967 Cosmo. Didn't know the the RX-5 was sold as a Cosmo in the U.S. I'll have to check out Atkins Rotary. I need some parts for my `87 TII.

They are either mixing oil in the fuel to help save the rotor seals or the seals on the rotor are worn out. The supercharger puts some stress on those seals. It's definitely an oddball rotary engine when you put a supercharger on it. Turbos are the usual for them. Very good example of this car. They didn't sell in the export market but they killed it in Japan. Good video as always. 👍

I owned a 5 speed manual stock Cosmo in gunmetal grey. Wish I would have kept it. The supercharger would have been awsome as I could get 120 in 3rd and with the progressive 4 barrel, it would top out at 7000 rpm. It was a bit heavy on gas in the day and burned oil by design but was a sweet ride and quiet to drive. Miss it!

I'm really doubting that Clarion radio is original... tape and Digital readout for 1976? Fancy stuff and perhaps possible, but I'm doubting it (if this is a USDM car...). [And yeah, I'm gonna need one of them for my Capella too]

i bought the rx5 version back in the mid 70's whilst serving in the British army in Germany i loved that car but tuning it was a nightmare 2 sets of points 2 plugs per rotor and 2 coils and it was fast when the turbo kicked in you got pushed back in your seat mine was a very deep dark green that was almost black but no point in taking it back to the UK it was never exported there

I love how Japanese cars borrowed styling from everyone else. The front looks like a full-size Oldsmobile or Buick, the greenhouse looks like a Vega or Monza, the taillights are off a Hillman Avenger. It all works. It's stylish and that supercharged rotary has a unique sound.
