I had a 2010 XJ but it was the 3 liter Diesel and it was fantastic. Mine was a portfolio spec so had all the extras on it and nice leather on the doors not and wood inlays as a jag should have. It was a great car and despite the comments from a lot of people it never had any mechanical issues at all (I bought it 2nd hand and believe the original owner probably got everything fixed before I bought it) as a used car its a brilliant buy they have depreciated so much that you get an insane amount of car for your money. Also for a big car it handles and drives pretty well, I even did a track day in mine becuase my 911 had broken down and it did reasonably well and I got to overtake some very surprised sports car drivers as I went buy in a car not much smaller than my first flat!

I had a 2011 xjl 5.0 s/c RWD, drove it 50k miles. What a car! Handles way better than its size, much more of a drivers car than BMW, Mercury, Audi - light - way better than a Maserati. Effortless power and speed. Eats brakes, replaced ac compressor, water pump, steering rack - I had a warranty. Had very cool jag option wheels - flat dish - on grey/silver. 1200w Bowers and Wilkins stereo was unbelievable. ZF six speed I prefer to 8 speed, power always accessible. Might go look for a 575. Or XJL-R. Service is expensive consistent with cars like this., even if you buy cheap. Beware. But an awesome ride that you rarely see. Looks depend on color and wheel choice. Buy one with FULL service records, new brakes, water pump and get a warranty. Smokin fast, pulls like a freight train from 70-130mph.

As an owner of the facelifted XJ from 2016, I have to say, that Jeremy Clarkson was absolutely right: on twisty roads it‘s not short of a masterpiece. The one in the video doesn‘t seem to be the LWB model, you can see that more clearly at 6:48 minutes. The rear door should be noticeably longer. With its light weight and wider front axle, the car doesn‘t know what understeer is. It‘s brilliant.

@@davidspropaganda You may not have the problem (and seem to keep your luck of not having any real issues), but lots and lots of other people have experienced the complete opposite, especially Range Rovers. To be fair Jaguar seems to have been getting better in terms of reliability for the last five years, but they appear to have difficulties on justifying their price tag. They're more expensive than the Germans (albeit more equipped) yet with lower build quality and also less luxurious. Their infotainment system is also frustrating to use, unlike the Germans who seem to always get it right. People tend to give reviews when they have negative experience. And considering that you had had multiple positive experiences with the brand, I suggest that you go on those surveys and share that experiences. If more people do that, maybe, just maybe it would reduce the negative stigma about the reliability surrounding the JLR group.
@aabidamn
4 жыл бұрын
@@davidspropaganda I really like the XJ and X type design of that era, hated the S-type, though. The good thing about the Ford era Jaguar is that they shared a lot of components with Ford, so cheaper parts are available as long as you buy the Ford parts. Once you buy the Jaguar stamped parts, the price can go a lot more expensive. The bad part of the Ford era Jaguar, is that they shared a lot of interior parts with Ford, so they can feel cheap once you know they were using Ford parts. Lol As for the X-type, a friend of mine in the US had to replace the fuel pump. Parts weren't that expensive cause he bought the Ford ones. Unfortunately the "engineers" that designed the car decided that in order to access the fuel pump, you need to remove the fuel tank. Moreover they also think that it was a good idea that in order to remove the fuel tank, you need to remove the subframe of the car. So changing a fuel pump that normally takes 30minutes tops on Japanese cars, would probably take a whole day for his X-type because they had to remove pretty much the whole backend of the car, which ultimately cost him more than $1000. Make sure you use more than good quality fuel to prolong the age of the fuel pump in yours!

That is an old management or press car. As has been said AJV8 was never Ford derived, just built at Bridgend. XE wasn't around in 2010 either...XF was previous generation (X250) back then too. The old 5.0SC is quite a motor & XJ SS was always quicker than it had any right to be! Ride was always inferior to X350, as you say too fidgety for my liking. I presume that car didn't have the super premium audio option from the factory - that was quite a thing at the time.

JayEmm on Cars I believe the 5 litre is still the AJ-V8. Just got bigger over time. 4.0, 4.2 and 5.0 in Jags. Ford, Aston and Land Rover used them in other sizes too. Great engines though. Got a 4.2 XKR, love it. When it was possible to actually drive it and not be under lockdown.

JayEmm on Cars, I try to forget about the Ford parts in my car. Except when finding the Ford component is considerably cheaper than the Jag branded exact same part. At least mine is the 4.2 so I like to think is more Jag under the bonnet.

Hi JM, I enjoy your reviews. I always liked the XJ, beautiful classic exterior since 1968, the acres of wood inside, only its reliability made me not consider it for my car. I went for the classic, beautiful "Magnificent 7" E 38 740iL instead, owned one from 2005 to 2017, I doubt the XJ would be less reliable. On the contrary, my current E 320 Bluetec diesels 2007 and 2008 have been utterly bulletproof reliable. That 740's 4.4 lt v8 had just 282 HP, I can imagine how more powerful it would be with the 510 of your XJ! Let's go back to this XJ, though. I like the modern styling too, but wish they kept the quad round headlights. ALso, just because it is a fast car is no excuse to eliminate all the GLORIOUS WOOD VENEER from the Dashboard which all lesser XJ's have.

The engine on my 2014 jaguar XJL died at 126K miles. (All routine and regular maintenance performed meticulously). The dealership said I could get a new engine for $25,000. I spent over $13,000 in repair and maintenance in the three years I had this car. Now I have a 4100 pound paperweight in my driveway.

Not sure why he's put a subby in the boot, I've got the Meridian system and into club music and it goes so loud without distorting I can't hear myself shouting! One thing I've seen depreciate like a ton of bricks recently is the F12 BMW 6 Series Coupe's. In 6 cylinder 640i form theres a 21k miler 2014 car for £15k on autotrader, and a dozen others for under 20k - seems like decent value for 5 year old lowish mile GT cars! I know theyre not the best but by far not the worst way to spend that amount of money!

Always had the idea that there was some Volvo crossbreeding going on in the nose form of this car, and some big Citroën at the back end. OK, they decided to throw the bath water out, and get away from the 1970's four head light fluted bonnet, but the child eviction also? Lucky the foundation of the building was solid, but will they ever fix the sales reputation dry rot of last to the garage cash till is a sissy. May be, electric will be answer, a new sales model army.

The Jaguar supercharged V8 (AJ133) wasn't Ford derived. Yes it's built in a section of Ford Bridgend engine factory, yes it has parts with FoMoCo stamped on it, but it's not designed by or derived from any Ford engine
