Thanks for the great tip, I have been doing the routing the long way with superior drummer 3 in reaper, this will save time.

Just picked up Superior Drummer (upgraded from EZ) and I couldn't quite work this out - I'm just working on my new template following the upgrade now. Subbed and will be looking forward to more videos.

Well Kenneth I tried your tutorial and yes it worked for me, recorded my drums with my midi keyboard and went to just bring down the snare a little and all the other faders moved also together at once 🤔

Not sure what's happened there. Maybe somehow all the drum tracks have been inadvertently selected? That can make it behave as if all the faders are grouped. An alternative could be adjusting the balance in the mixer inside SD3.

Could I ask what is the benefit of having multiple tracks over a single stereo output with the internal mixer inside SD3?

Great video, question, doing this in reaper makes my overall drum volume much louder. A single sd3 or ezd3 track by itself, vs when i create a folder track, the overall volume is much louder.. why is this?? Haven't been able to find a fix!

i made a similar setup like this but the Drum GRP did not control the other channels which made it pretty useless !

Thanks for posting this. I wish this video was around about 1 year ago when I first got Superior Drummer. All of the video that I watched were awful compared to this one! You just get right to the point though. Question for you- let's say I finish mixing each of these channels, and now I want to freeze the tracks. I should select the "freeze to stereo" option in Reaper, correct? Or, should I select "freeze to multichannel"? Could you explain when I would want to freeze to multichannel? Thanks!
@KennethACrashwaggonMusic

Thanks! Glad I could help! I always freeze to separate tracks, as I find that easier to deal with when time to do the whole mix. Typically I will freeze the kick and snare tracks to mono, and the rest to stereo.

Done it and it doesnt work... Probably some config on my Reaper, but it just dont want to rout things. After apply the Multichannel outputs it doesnt send the signal to the channels =(

I am having the same issue, did you ever get this resolved?
@caioaquino5958

@@blackraspberrypie hi there! Yes, but I kind of work around it, what I did was instead of routing and work with that routed signal I just bounced all the stems from Superior Drummer to a .wav format then uploaded it into my project, Hope it helps

Kenneth that is so well explained thank you so for this, I have being going out of my mind trying to get answers, I see at the beginning of your video you have two tracks drum grp and drum midi can you explain these to me, why two tracks, what I'm doing is insert virtual instrument on new track and then it added 16 tracks and pressing rec everything was only going out of this virtual inst track, so the drum midi track is actually virtual instrument track being SD3? I have only looked at your video must now put it into practice, I'll get to grips with this eventually thanks to you this is a great start, it also seems to me that you do most of your editing within the SD3 mixer and setting sounds eq etc and then routing to Reaper, and then tweak further from there, am I correct here 👍

The drum grp track is a folder track. I like to place the drum tracks inside a folder, which gives me an extra volume option (for example automation) as well as the possibility for bus processing such as eq and compression. Just the way I like to work. ;)

So I followed everything here and this works fine for the groove in superior drummer. But if i arm the tracks and hit record I end up with 16 stereo tracks of the full kit instead of the individual tracks I heard when soloing the tracks prior to recording

You may have to do a clear cache/rescan in preferences (under VST), that usually does the trick. Also, it doesn't work with the 32 bit Reaper version, in case you have that one installed.

So after doing this can you then select all the midi tracks and render them into audio so that you can edit the audio like that somehow? I tried doing that but it only seemed to work on the track where I had the midi information, not the tracks i sent it to
@KennethACrashwaggonMusic

You should be able to, but I've found it works a little bit different in every DAW out there. You can freeze the return tracks in Reaper for sure to get the audio tracks - not sure what you're working with?

@@KennethACrashwaggonMusic i just switched from Pro tools to reaper and i tried doing that but it only seems to render the track with the kontakt instance and it only dose the sum of the midi files into one audio file even if i do multi channel recording on different tracks

APPLY multi channel outputs, didn't give them their own buses it just gave them all their own channels instead of all going to a master 1 and 2 wihicch is no good

Hey, looks like I accidentally left a step out, will eventually redo the video. After "apply multi channel outputs" in SD3, go to Options in Reaper's FX browser window and click "build multichannel routing for output of selected FX". That should do the trick.
