This video begins at an unnamed dead-end road, just west of Lonely Pine Drive. This is where the Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) meets Lismore Road for the first time. It is also the location of the old trailhead along Lismore Road. From this beginning, the video follows the SHT east along Lismore Road for about 0.4 miles to the location of the new trailhead. Beyond the trailhead, continuing east, in about a quarter mile you come to the intersection of Lismore Road and Jean Duluth Road. After crossing Jean Duluth Road, the trail continues east up a dead-end road. Just as you approach the sign that says, "Dead End", the trail turns off into the woods on the right.
From this point, the SHT mostly follows the C.J. Ramstad/North Shore State Trail for about 2.9 miles. After leaving the North Shore State Trail, the SHT meanders through some sections of woods and a couple of clear-cut areas that were recently logged. About 1.1 miles after splitting from the North Shore State Trail, you arrive at Lone Tree Campsite. This is the only campsite along this section of the SHT. The entire distance hiked in this video is approximately 4.7 miles. This hike is part of the Lismore Road to Normanna Road Trailhead section. The entire section between those two trailheads is about 6.9 miles in length.
There are no spectacular views along this section of the Superior Hiking Trail like you may encounter in other more rugged sections, but there are a few nice vistas to be enjoyed. This is a good section to choose if you just want a more casual walk through the woods. This section of trail can get waterlogged in the spring and after periods of heavy rain.
