wishgsxr Thanks for subscribing, they look good in full screen mode but next one I’ll do in landscape.

You need to cut out the front windshield area out?
@JoelKSLC

Michael Thompson , yes eventually. I’ll cut the front and rear windows out during final body fitment. Right now it is recommended to leave in since the body is stronger and will resist warping-changing shape while on the buck

Not sure I would bake fiberglass out in the sun... there’s a reason why fiberglass boats are mostly white,so they don’t absorb to much heat from the sun and warp. I can’t imagine your car shell would be any different.

Quentin Store , thanks for the feedback. I haven’t yet moved the body outside so don’t really know. I think my understanding and comments in the video are not exactly accurate. The main reason builders choose to expose the car body to heat and sunlight is to help expose any air pockets that exist right under the gelcoat vs. getting the fiberglass to relax. Now that the body has been on the buck for a year all the seams and panels fit well.

Joel K yeah I worked building fiberglass and carbon race boats and have been a collision tech for over 20 years now, and your doing a good job just take your time and do your research.but be careful there is a lot of bad information and people who really don’t know what they are talking about.but heat is definitely not good for fiberglass and ultraviolet light will rot it over long periods of time years.... and before you do any body work carefully degrease and and wipe it down with mold release agent remover ,it doesn’t play well with primer and paint.

Quentin Store Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it very much and actually planning on having a professional prep and paint the body who has worked on a number of RCR cars. I don’t think that is something I will do myself.

Subbed for more build videos. Is the body buck a requirement in the build manual?
@JoelKSLC
5 жыл бұрын
20spray1 , yes the build manual recommends building a body buck and not to put long term stress on the panels. There are many ways to do this. Many builders hang the center section from the ceiling and stand up the front and rear clams, but this is they way I felt would insure the body maintains it shape over time. Plus, I like looking at the body assembled on the stand. Good motivation!

@@JoelKSLC I agree, I think looking at the body is very good motivation indeed! What are your plans for the car in terms of styling, motor choice, and interior? I'm finishing up my degree in mechanical engineering and as soon as I can land a job I will be ordering an SLC!

Good for you, a mere 35 yeas ago I was getting ready to graduate with an engineering degree. As motivation I kept a sales poster of a 1982 Corvette above my desk. When I graduated I bought that car in 83. As far as the SLC, going with an LT4 engine. Designing the car for the street so going with a complete finished interior and digital dash and center console.

Im happy to hear you got the corvette! I think I'll have to change my desktop wallpaper to an SLC. I believe I stumbled upon your SLC build thread on the gt40 forums, and I highly look forward to seeing your build! I mainly just lurk on the forums to read and gather info. Since I don't own one (yet) I felt it wasnt right for me to talk on the forums

are you a part of the SLC facebook page? i wanted to join to get a better idea about ownership and building experience for the car, but the group seemed pretty closed off the people who dont currently own or are building the car. i promise to only read/like posts, and will not comment or say anything in the group page.
