I met a guy who has one a SLC over in Michigan, has a E63 BMW v10 in it, I've heard a lot of loud cars but this thing idling was louder than my m3 redlining, it was so beautifully made and it fit so perfectly in the car. Truly wish I could see and hear it again.
@johnbraucher1499

The sound of a BMW v8 is one of the best sounds ever heard. V10's are even better. (Off topic) I ran into a guy in my small town with an illegal right hand drive made in Japan by hand, 2011 skyline gtr in burnt orange pearl essence, I live in a small town of about 4000 people tops including rural outskirts, so this was shocking at the time, I seen it IN 2011 when it was first after concept. I rode my pedal bike a mile or two to the carwash where he stopped, dropped my bike in the middle of the road and started taking pictures with my flip phone at the time. He got mad a little cause it really wasn't legal in the states, and I got a fee snaps of his license plate so he kind of flipped out on me. But man, something I thought I would never see in my life and I have proof to boot. Guy was from Canada. A lawyer. Paid $112,000 for it cash. Had it made from top to bottom.

I think Thailand is one of the greatest Countries in the world of Hot Rodding, absolutely anything and everything including plows and tractors are raced, and the fastest 150 cc motorcyles/ Motorbikes in the world, these guys run 9's on a pretty crappy semi prepped track, far from ideal. The number of 4 cylinder diesel powered everything, put out over 1,000 hp on budget builds, much much more on high dollar builds. That and Thai ladies who flock to Races are some of the most attractive ladies in the world. @GTR Genius - I've got over 160 lbs of sound and heat isolation in the car already! There's a bit more room and I may try a few more things out but you can only do so much when the engine is ~1ft behind your head and the total exhaust length is ~3 feet. I've found noise canceling headphones to work really well for long drives. When it's time to wick things up the headphones come off and the extra noise is pretty intoxicating. :)

@Infinite Reality - I'm looking forward to hearing impressions once builders get those installed! My only gripe about the RCR version is I think it's a 2-handed maneuver to get into reverse. One hand on the stick, another to release the lockout. The R8 unit is nice because it's one-handed and you can keep your other hand on the wheel. Feels much more natural.
@DelCalloway

@@CamThai I'm pretty curious about the reverse lockout as well. Definitely won't be as easy as the R8, buthopefully it'll become somewhat more natural as I get accustomed to it. I don't think I've read any feedback on them yet, I'll have to ask Allan what he thinks next time I talk to him.

@Jason Kellogg - there’s some irony in that my license plate has “TRBO” in it 🤣 but I wanted to go as basic as possible to avoid a complicated powertrain. There are already so many other things on this project that could have gone wrong, adding the complexity of water, oil, and intercooler circuits just didn’t sound appealing to me - not to mention the electronics to support a custom turbo setup. I wanted to build a near bullet proof car so I could DRIVE it rather than wrench on it. 🤷🏻♂️

Thank you very much for this great video. You did a great job at shearing your driving impression on the street. I am considering building one, and I would like to know if it can be fitted with an electrical power steering. By the way, reversing on the lift seems a bit risky, have you considered installing a camera underneath the car? (Just an idea, I don't know if it might help). Again thanks for the videos, and keep them coming. Cheers
@CamThai
5 жыл бұрын
@Karim Edde - anything is possible, the factory offers power steering as an option but I believe it's geared toward race cars. There are also conversions you can do using junkyard parts, so relatively inexpensive. Truthfully, it's not really needed. Parking lot speeds are fine once you get the car rolling a few mph, otherwise steering weight is really good at all other times, especially at speed. It's not obvious but if you take a look at my "It's weird" video, you'll see I have a near-field rear camera. When I'm reversing onto the lift I'm using 2 different cameras mounted in the rear. The near-field is located right by my license plate, so pretty low. Thanks for the feedback and feel free to hit me up if you decide to go down the rabbit hole!

@CamThai
Жыл бұрын
I had considered the Ultima but I am not a fan of the tube frame chassis or tube suspension arms for a street car. I think that’s fine if you’re building a track car. If I was building a track-only car I think the Ultima wins. For a dual purpose or street focused car the SLC wins for me.

@Robert Norris - this is true for the first 5(?) gears, but 6th remains unchanged. The difference is too small to justify the cost difference. I think at the time I was looking, it was a +$3k difference for the V10 variant. At that point it's about the same to go with a set of drop gears that can affect all gears, and much more significantly (which is what you really need).

@Leroy Deuster - it's a pretty big question with a long answer. Without going into too many details, I felt Superlite was ahead as far as technology and fit/finish/ease of assembly/completion. @Rez look into doing a Graziano with drop gears and upgrades clutch system. Check in with HCF Autosport for pricing, you’ll find the Graziano option is cheaper, just as reliable, and readily available. If you need replacement parts for the Ricardo ... good luck! What's the interior sound level like? It sounded pretty loud during your video. I really like these cars and I'm curious how noisy they are on the inside. It seemed like you had to talk loud during your video.
@CamThai
Жыл бұрын
Not gonna lie - it’s loud. Certainly louder than any oem car you’ve been in. I have about 300 lbs of sound and heat isolation materials in the car and it’s still loud. This car has zero rubber bushings and wasn’t designed with noise control in mind. Seals are whatever you can come up with and aero choices were purely driven by performance. I could have knocked a few dB by going with a bigger muffler but I didn’t want to do that. If I’m on the highway I’ve usually got my noise canceling headphones on which makes it as quiet as oem. I highly recommend anyone driving one of these to try it out. In the canyons or when you’re having fun? Headphones off, it’s better that way!

@constantine stranger - I have no idea, best to contact Superlite directly for that info. I know they've modified the frame to accommodate other powertrain packages.

How is it with pot holes? Do you have a hard time going over speed bumps or entering businesses or gas stations? Do you ever bottom out? By the way wonderful buiod you have.

The front lift is pretty critical for a street build. It gets me over just about every driveway I’ve encountered. Potholes I try to avoid as much as possible. If you hit them at speed it sounds like the car has exploded but I haven’t found any damage apart from scrapes to the underside. If I have enough time to react I will engage the front lift and that takes the bite out of anything I can’t avoid (like a big road seam). I bottom out occasionally but it’s pretty rare. Thanks, appreciate the kind words!

@CamThai I'm really close to getting one built. I have so many questions. Crazy question but do you see this being a daily driver as long as it's a low HP build? Thanks in advance

Depends on your tolerance for attention and inconvenience. It’s far easier to jump into your car and go to the grocery store than to do it in an SLC. The attention is crazy and there’s not a whole lot of storage. Going to work, hanging with friends? Sure. I think ~500hp is just right. So long as you don’t get stupid there’s no reason to go lower given the availability and cost for this motor.

Man with that gearing that thing must really get it from a stop

@sinformant - it's all about traction management in the first 3 gears. Check out my "stranded" video and you'll notice I roll into the gas from every stop. Whacking the throttle in gears 1 and 2 especially mean wheelspin, regardless of speed. Thanks for watching!
