For anyone wondering, the green wire is constant power for the DRLs, so hook it to that if you want your spotlight DRLs to be on without having your parkers on

I just gave this a go and the spotlight DRL's don't light up at all, whether they are on manual or automatic lights. Edit: My bad, they actually do work perfectly in line with the DRL's - it took me to switch into neutral with the handbrake on to see whether they were working or not. 😝 Thanks mate!

Please don't use the negative terminal on your battery guys, it has a chance to mess up your smart alternator,,,,,always ground to the body work. Your winch should be the only bit of kit that uses both negative and positive post on the vehicles battery ✌✌
@VideoShowMeHow
2 жыл бұрын
Eh?? I've always used the battery neg on a heap of different mods/cars never had an issue? How would this impact your 'smart' alternator? Not having a go mate just curious as this has never been a thing in my exp?
@jakeminogue
2 жыл бұрын
@VideoShowMeHow modern vehicles with smart alternators have a shunt on the negative battery cable to measure the current draw on the system and varies the output of the alternator to suit the system demand. if you ground your spotlights directly to your battery negative post, then the ecu won't read the current drawn by them and your alternator will struggle to keep up. the ground for the spotlights needs to be on the body side of the shunt. it's pretty important for the dmax too, they don't have a lot of excess charging capacity as the electric power steering rack is pretty power hungry.
@VideoShowMeHow
2 жыл бұрын
@@jakeminogue the ecu would read a voltage as well though and modify the charge rated based on this too no?? And why is winch ok? Because high current/intermittent use? Like I said have never had an issue in the past but this is interesting and will research further - cheers 👍
@jakeminogue
2 жыл бұрын
@VideoShowMeHow I'm a mechanical engineer, not an electrical engineer, but im thinking that the smart alternators vary both their output voltage and current, so while it might be upping the voltage to 14V to try to maintainthe battery, it might not be outputting enough current to cope with the draw of the spotlights? ive always just made sure to stay on the body side of the shunt if there's one there, it's not hard to do. I've never dealt with winches personally but I think you bypass the shunt to avoid overloading the alternator (let the battery take the abuse in that case maybe? idk). but definitely do a bit of research, as none of us in the youtube comments are experts! haha
