I remember living through it, the main lesson I learned from this is it is more important to have a home than material possession.

I remember this night. I was sitting in my apt in Elizabeth NJ. It was a warm day and night until the storm came. It made landfall, the wind picked up, the power went out. It got colder and colder. I had to use the stove to heat the apt. I know it’s stupid to do so, but I cracked a window open for ventilation. Woke up the next morning and it looked like a war zone even in Elizabeth. I saw what it did to seaside heights

I left Long Island in the 70s as a kid with my family. We moved to South Florida and I've been through a few hurricanes, including Andrew. My advice is to keep your shoes on. Kind of hard to walk on glass and wood. Also, just prepare for no power. Keep important papers like birth certificates in plastic along with your computers. Keep them up high. Really not much you can do. Keep your kids close. Little ones get so scared. The last bad one was Irma, I think, in Florida. No power for days and unbelievably hot. I believe eight people in a nursing home in Hollywood died because no one called for help ànd no generators. That was so sad, and could have been avoided. Not looking forward to this summer. I don't want to go through another hurricane again. I remember blizzards as a kid. They can be just as bad. Good luck to all this summer. Pray for the best and prepare for the worst.

Speaking of Irma, I went through the eyewall and eye of the storm and I got the strongest winds by far of anywhere on the peninsula from Irma. Was very bad, we had a lot of structural damage to the house not to mention the trees which just got ripped apart. It was definitely a lot worse here down in Collier County in SWFL. We had some flooding too. Ian was 9.5 months ago now and that wasn't really that bad besides the wind which took roofing tiles & some trees down but compared to what Irma did here, Ian was really just a little breeze.

WOW I lived in Florida for 10 yrs and went thru my share of Hurricanes. My father still lives down there. And after watching this I feel these ppl have a thing or two they cld teach Florida FOR SURE!!! I mean I moved back to St Louis after Irma cause the 4 to 6 weeks every time after a storm like these with no electricity, amd the intense heat of 95 to 110 in the days after and no air...etc i just cldnt do it anymore. Im 42 amd after 10 yrs was tired of boarding up my house 3 to 5 times a yr. Yes i HATE the snow and cold but u have to decide what u want to deal with and what ur willing to tollerate as far as mother nature is concerned. Anyway I always felt Florida was unorganized before and after these type storms. These ppl here cld def teach Florida a thing or 2. I mean in Polk County the sheriff wld have police outside every emergency shelter so if u went to the shelter looking for safety u have to show ur license and have ur name run before entering so if u had any traffic warrents, tickets, or regular warrents they wld arrest you on the spot. Now i agree u shld take care of things like this but the problem with this is if ppl have a warrent for say driving w/o registration and need to seek safety they wont go to a safety shelter cause they know they will be arrested and chances are because of power outages and problems AFTER the storm a $100 registration ticket cld keep ppl locked up in jail for 6 to 10 weeks b4 they wld see a judge depending on the devastation after a storm. So knowing this ppl choose to brave the storm at home and some DO die. Their priorities b4 something like a CAT 5 hurricane heading our way kill me. Why worry abt stuff like that a day before mothernature is going to absolutely demolish all in her path. These ppl prepared for THE STORM and really took care of their ppl and community. I really really admire this town and its ppl. ALSO i didnt hear anything abt looting, and all that craziness that always happens down in Florida either. This was a great doc thant u for making and posting.

I live about 5 minutes inland from manasquan and somehow I didn’t even get a downed tree until the snow when I lost a little shrub lol. I remember going through Bay head and seeing some homes ripped in half. It was unbelievable
