The more often you listen to this song, the more it goes into your blood. The piano that starts and goes on so simple but so effective and on top the strings comes thr saxophone with the for the entire album releasing note at the end, here at 5:50.

This. I'm still quite young, but I must have listened to this song close to 2000 times and still every time I hear that final note on the saxophone and the song fading out with the harmonica, I get literal goosebumps. It's my favourite song of all time and to me, it just contains all the pain and suffering in this world and that all culminates in that final note of the saxophone. I love Pink Floyd, Led Zep and so many other great bands, that may be more well regarded and may have a wider body of work that is off the greatest quality, but no music in the world speaks to me like this album and this song do. And when listening to this song so many times, each time you still discover new things. It took my like 500 listens to notice that the simple piano riff actually changes up slightly (at 3:15 in the video)... And after some more listens, I noticed Rick does it again, by adding two more notes at the end of the piano riff at 3:50 in this video. And that's only the "simple" piano riff. A masterpiece, no other word to describe this song.

The definition of epic. Thanks for doing this journey... (and thanks to the patron)... If you're ever interested in more excellent Supertramp: "Soapbox Opera," "The Meaning," "Even In The Quietest Moments," and, of course, "Fool's Overture" are well worth checking out. Cheers!

Shortly after this tour, guitarist-vocalist Roger Hodgson left Supertramp. They hired a U.S. multi-instrumentalist named Mark Hart for some tours. But fate came calling when Crowded House added Mark to their touring lineup and he spent almost three decades with that remarkable band, led by Neil Finn. Paul McCartney called Neil the greatest songwriter in the world and recently he joined Fleetwood Mac. You must get acquainted with Neil's songs with C.H., with Split Enz, with his big brother Tim Finn, and each brother's solo work. It's a "Private Universe" that will open your eyes and your heart.

Saw Supertramp (1979) on their *Breakfast in America* tour in Kansas City. Fabulous concert. *1983* - this was the last tour with Roger Hodgson with Supertramp before he went solo.

Such a classic! It has been with me since 1974. And each time it feels like listening for the first time. The live version you picked is not the best one that is out there, but it is always better than the studio version, which is quite contained.

Still the reference lp for production detail and quality. On vinyl it's a magical listen. You may not have noticed but as the song fades you hear the harmonica which opens the 1st track School

This album ended dramatically three times. Once quite oddly at the end of the whole little story told in the song Rudy, again with Roger Hodgson's pre-ending song of If Everyone Was Listening, and then with the dramatic ending of this song Crime of the Century.

Listen to their next album...'Crisis what Crisis'...think it was their best but seems to be underplayed/underrated. Best tune is Sister Moonshine, but not a bad song on the album.
