Very true statement, @lbanesed210, Attending their concerts back in the '70s and seeing how their level of musicianship along with a full stage width screen playing video that matched the story of each song created a fully immersive experience. Headphones are a must for Supertramp.

So cool to see you guys hearing all the little nuances Supertramp brings to the table. As Sp33gan said below, this is the "real Supertramp" They were a prog art rock group before they were a pop group. Crime Of The Century is one of the best-sounding, best-written, best-produced records you will find. We had music with DYNAMICS in the 70s! There is much written about how that has gone away and today most commercial music is flatter [loud but flatter] and has less in the way of peaks and valleys. Spend your thousands on home audio if you really love music.

This Supertramp fan's favorite Supertramp song. Lyrically, this speaks to everyone. Who hasn't needed more " time " or felt "the whole world's above him " at some point in life? And pure fire musically. The live version from the live album " Paris " is here on KZitem, a different energy, plus the video shows them in concert...while they're playing, a video of a train is being shown behind them. Quite the feat in the 1970s

When I saw Supertramp at the Forum in LA for the 1983 tour, they played a black and white film that changed into sepia, then color footage (fairly high tech stuff back then) that was above the stage during Rudy,.The film was shot from the front car of a train, on a ride through a city and countryside (likely in Britain), and it started out normal speed as it puulls out of the station (when you can hear the start of the "train station sounds"), and then the film started speeding up, eventually going super fast as the music builds towards the end, and as the song ended the train slows down and pulls back into a station, and the people depart the train. It was mesmerizing to watch as the band played. It was an epic concert moment for me that I will always think of when I hear Rudy.

Couldn’t agree more, I was a big Floyd fan back in the day as well. In addition to Crime, the other album I always considered sacrilegious to break into segments was Wish You Were Here. Was ever much of a live concert goer in those years, due to the generally awful sound at most venues, but did manage to catch Supertamp at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver BC in ‘75, I think, and it definitely spoiled me.

Much of this great album was recorded at Trident Studios and made use of their infamous Bechstein piano. This instrument has a folklore all of it's own. It was used and favoured by Queen, Elton John, Carly Simon ... the list goes on. Trident also had one of the most musical sounding desks too, put to good use by Ken Scott. This song had two endings a dramatic ending first and then returns with a sad epilog ending. The first is Rudy as a character in the movie. The second is about Rudy who walks out from the movie after watching his life up on the screen. To see them play it live brings this song to life and to understand the lyrics a bit better. I would recommend watching a Supertramp live video of them playing this song. Live they brought down a screen and showed a video of a 1940's train station and a camera fixed on the front of a train speeding through London and travelling the rails of England, through tunnels, crowds of people and so much more. it was awesome to see and mesmerizing. This band brought so much to music.

Crime of the Century is their best album IMO. Not a weak song on it. From the consistency of quality of all the songs to the quality of the production and engineering. Especially for how long ago it was recorded. It was not as popular as Breakfast in America, but I have listened to it far more over the years. This album is worthy of an entire album review. That being said, I am a fan of deep tracks and Just Another Nervous Wreck off Breakfast in America is worth a listen. To me it would have fit nicely on this album.
