Hi Heir, long time watcher, first time commenter, so first of all thank you for all the great content and entertainment through the years! I have no knowledge or great interest in the time period, but I have seen some interesting things from the videos so far, and I think that the Sofia team seem to be good at listening and implementing changes that players want, such as the 2D unit cards. I think a lot of the apathetic or negative feelings are linked to some justifiable general dissatisfaction with CA/SEGA, much as how many people were not even willing to give Troy a chance just because it was on the Epic games store. Overall I have some mixed feelings about Pharaoh; there are things to like about the game, and things that could be better. I think there are some really good campaign mechanics, I really like the multiple resources carried over from Troy, and there seem to be some other mechanics to help you play a more interesting campaign such as the unit stances in battles, and I'd like to see these carried over to further games. On the other hand the general faction and unit diversity might be something that works against the replayability of the game. Obviously there are constraints due to the historical nature of the game, and I like that a lot of effort has been put in (again similar to Troy) to try and diversify the unit types and weights to give you/force you into tactical flexibility, rather than just lining up 15 Terracotta Sentinels and 5 rocket batteries and blitzing the poor little Skavenslaves. As you suggested in your post-pork prattling, maybe having unique skill point lines tailored to the leaders' personalities would help you to diversify campaigns, otherwise I'm not sure I would see the need to play all of the different factions within a culture type. Overall it could be a good game, particularly if/when it gets fleshed out with more factions/cultures, but right now for me it is more than I am willing to spend for what you get.

Yeah, I am actually not a fan of the rag dolling in Warhammer in general. I was actually pretty pleased watching those infantry crash into each other. The lines got all messed up, units ended up kind of all over the place. That is something I have noticed with units in general for this title from these videos. The more "elite" the more like they are to keep their formation which helps with taking less damage since those models are surrounded and easily killed.

I had a reply written for a post asking why the leaders do not have Regnal numbers in the game such as Rameses III. Looks like the person deleted their comments but just as a bit of education: The ancient Egyptians did not use Regnal numbers, that is something much later scholars did to make it simpler to identify who is who. They had a Throne Name which they took when the became Pharoah. Rameses IiI's Regnal/Throne name was "User Maat Ra, mery Amun". Rameses II's Throne name was "User Maat Ra, setep en Ra" (rather than mery Amun). They also have other names such as their Horus Name and Nebty Name that also appear in their Cartouches. So to the ancient Eqyptians Rameses II and Rameses III had different Regnal name and were easily differentiated.

Would you believe for some time no one believed the Hittites existed. There were Biblical references only. Then they found a copy of a Treaty between them and Egypt. Later they found settlements. Now we know much more. But this is a time period a long long time ago. The Sea People are a mystery that continues. For me this is a very interesting strategic game. Hittites sit on mineral deposits. Egyptians overflow with food. Historically Canaanites were never a great power. Divided into many small kingdoms. Ultimately it seems food wins. The great civilizations were located in the most fertile lands. The others were just hill people. Enjoying the series.

Not only a comment for the algorithm but I also have an interesting idea. What if CA is trying to set the foundation for new Mortal Empires-like campaign. What I am getting at is something like 2 or 3 games set in the bronze age in and around the fertile crescent. First, would be Pharaoh with its Egypt and modernday Turkey and then 2nd and 3rd game would look more closely at the Tiger and Euphrates valley as well as Greece (giant maybe as there is already Troy). What are your thoughts on that?
@TurkicGhazi

The Hittites were only relatively discovered by archeologists and historians, there’s very little we know of them as a culture. However we know they built a serious empire with an army that relied on chariot warfare. The empire seemed to have fallen apart as quick as it rose with civil war and faded into obscurity until recently with the discovery of Hatusa.

A couple of my thoughts after watching these videos. I noticed how no one can go past turn 60. I really hope this game becomes more of an apocolypse simulator like Attila, where I am building up, then I have to survive the coming devastation. That would go far in differentiating this from Troy for me. The other change that I am really liking, and I hope they implement for later titles is dynamic weather. Older titles you just hit wait for good weather. This removed that incentive as weather will dynamically change over the course of the battle. And certain units fighting better in different types of weather kind of gives those units a "home field advantage" in their territory vs. outside cultures.

Greece suffered heavily from the Bronze Age collapse, and the evidence is that it started earlier in Greece than Egypt and the Levant. A large percentage of settlements were abandoned and a fair number of the Palace settlements were destroyed. This fragmentation and displacement is one of the reasons it is posited that some of the groups of the Sea Peoples were Aegeans seeking new lands to settle. For this game my prediction is that what we will see as dlc in new campaigns covering different times and areas just as we had in Rome 2 and Medieval 2. That makes sense for a period where whole empires rose and were then conquered. I also think that we may see something like an non historic immortal empires campaign where all the factions from various campaign can fight it out.

Maybe a way to improve gameplay progression are smaller unit sizes in the beginning. And as your empire grows, you .ove away from small raider bands and trusted blood brothers, into gigantic royal armies specially designed for warrior king and pharoh. The scale battles expands organically aa the player expands through combat, diplomacy, roysl decrees, tech and economy. CA needs to really focus on improving the combat mechanics in the game. Particularly unit engagement and realistic animations. Drummers, flags, royal guards. Theres no life in the sounds of battles, no battle cries, speeches, no excitment in watching forces slowly march towards each other, its just a chess match, which is fine, nothing of magnificent spectacle to embody documented battles of ancient times. The attention to detail in management and character growth, resources is great. The campaign map is nice and clean, but still doesnt feel like total war. Feels more like AoE

Oh and yes we can have more, at $20+ plus a serving. I'm not even hating on the timeline, plenty of warfare in ancient Egypt, but pre order bonuses, cosmetic dlcs, removal and dumbing down of fan favorite features so more dummies can play are all telltale signs of the cash grab future. But then again I started playing TW when Empire came out, and people were saying the same thing then, and they were right.
