Loved the Hawaiian tuning... always wondered how 'that' sound was got on steel guitars. Excellent lessons nicely paced with just enough information to take on board! Thanks

I wonder how many people didn't know that about the harmonics? That would be an interesting survey this has been fun so far and I'm learning how to play my 1950 Oahu Thank you

Just got my first lap steel as an early Christmas present, and these videos are awesome! I've played standard tuning guitar for 20 years, and was concerned crossing over between tunings. Thanks for laying my fears to rest.

5:23 he speaks and tunes it correctly, but he accidentally says the tuning wrong at 5:35. The E6 tuning is E-B-E-G#-C#-E (not E-B-E-F#-B-E) It's an understandable mistake, since the E9 tuning (which has an F#) is very common on pedal steel guitar, which I assume he also plays

Just got a free lap steel from Guitar Center for a flubbed order on a Marshall 4x12 cab. Now I gotta learn to play one. This will help! Looking forward to expanding musical horizons...next is the mandolin. Nice job on these 5 vids I've watched so far.

My musical interests have taken a new direction and your videos really provide a solid foundation as I work to develop my skills. Question: I am currently in “D”, would raising my 2nd string a whole step give me the same relative sound you get while in “E”? Thank you - R
@6stringranch148

Yes! D and E are identical, just a whole step higher

Love these lessons. Gets me going. Can anyone share what gauge strings we should be using? I seem to have an odd combination of gauges that results in weak lower register sound.
