Great instructional video Dustin. You’re right-most people neglect the surface condition of cards when they submit. I’ve been examining surfaces more than before after taking a few disappointing shots to the chin on previous grading experiences

I am a printer and we call the fish eye a hicky on a printing plate. Thanks for making this video. I have just started getting back into collecting. I have sent in a few cards to get graded. Have done ok after really starting to check the cards over. This will help me, since how I didn't think some of the stuff would take the grade down so far. My first card I ever turned in cost me 50 to grade and it came back a 2. lol A lot to watch for for sure! Thanks!

Awesome video! Thanks. I do have a question. Why would something like that you really have to search for like the indent or wrinkle have a much greater impact than something obvious to the eye like greening or fisheyes? The latter you mentioned only taking you down to a 9 or 8 while the former dropping you to a 6 or so. Thanks again for this video!
@littlevictoriessportscards197

Great question…I really like it. Unfortunately the answer is a bad one 🤣 It’s because PSA says so. They set the grading standards all those years ago. But overall I think it’s because a wrinkle or indent actually physically damages the card stock. Greening and fisheyes still keep the card stock smooth, less in common with a crease. Thanks for watching the vid! 🙌

Great video as always, thanks for sharing your knowledge. What’s your thought process on grading 90s topps finest cards with or without the protective coating? I recently bought a football collection with a lot of 95 topps finest with coatings still on…just wondering which is better for grading and resale value in your experience. Thanks.
@littlevictoriessportscards197

Thanks as always for supporting my stuff! 🙌 From my experience, nowadays cards with the protective coatings still on don’t grade gem mint 10’s unfortunately. And PSA 9’s with protective coating don’t sell for as much as PSA 10’s without coating. So if wanting to grade and maximize value, my advice would be to remove the protective coating 👌

Thanks for the information - great video! Do the grading companies mark down a card that is bowed; the warping you sometimes see in Optic and Prizm cards out of the pack?

Great video! How much do you think curling affects the grade, if at all? And is there a reliable way to fix it 🤔?
@littlevictoriessportscards197
Жыл бұрын
Good question 👍 From my experience, I haven’t noticed grading companies downgrading cards due to curling. If you’re worried, sometimes what I do is put the card in a penny sleeve then put the card in the middle of a book, then stack some more heavy books on top for a week. The card seems to flatten out 👌 thanks for the view and comment!

One thing you didn't touch on I've always wanted to know Will a grader markdown a card if it is warped? I have Chrome cards that are otherwise perfect but if you set them down on a table you could tell they are warped

Are horizontal lines (appear to be roller marks) across the backs of cards like Mosaic or Prizm downgraded? Thank you for the video.
@littlevictoriessportscards197

Great question! I would say most of the time, no 👍 I’ve also noticed a lot of them on prizm and mosaic backs, and I still get gem 10’s. I think it’s only the really deep noticeable roller marks they will downgrade ya. Thanks for the view and support!

Great video this shows why a lot of cards are getting bad grades Lately I have been hesitant to even send minor scratching in and I don’t mind a 9 because I’m a collector. I even tried the wax from Kurt’s card care and it does nothing for me I don’t know how he is getting scratches off
@littlevictoriessportscards197

It’s really hard for me to believe people are getting surface scratches off. I’m skeptical for sure. I’ve also been hesitant sending in cards with even tiny surface scratches unless they would be PC cards. Grading companies have been hammering surface imperfections more in the past couple years. Thanks for the view and comment! 🙌

@@littlevictoriessportscards197 I watch a lot of Kurt’s videos and somehow he is getting a lot of the stuff of so purchased his products the spray was pretty good but no different than windex. Wow man, what an informative video! One question though, why does a card even green in the first place? What makes a card green and another clean?
@littlevictoriessportscards197
Жыл бұрын
I just found out that people call it Hulking too :) It sounds like its just a chemical reaction from the pigment/ink they used on chromium cards from 1993-1997. Looks like in 1998 they switched to a better quality which doesn't green. Sounds like most finest/chrome copies between 1993-97 will green over time, crazy. Thanks for the view! What if a specific card has a fish eye every time in the same place. Meaning, there isn’t a card out there without it.
@littlevictoriessportscards197
Жыл бұрын
Good question. So, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a specific fish eye show up every time on the exact same spot on a specific card. I have seen other image defects show up every time in the same spot on some cards (usually 1980’s cards). My example the 1987 topps canseco. Every card has three little almost green dots next to his right eye. And in that case, PSA still grades them a gem 10. So it doesn’t effect the grade since they all have it. But fish eyes, not sure that’s possible to show up exact spot every time. Thanks for the view!
