I was there at the age of 17 watching this live.. …. along with 25 Wind & Sewage North Steyne board riders also from our club there with us a young Gromit 14 year-old Barton Lynch … this footage does not do justice… that day it was huge … glassy … friggin scary … that’s the clubhouse left on Fire …🔥🔥 Bommie was also breaking that day …. Epic day - Andrew Pennan

Larry Blair’s autobiography is not what one would expect. Humble and honest. And the back story is one of Australia’s most notorious crimes and a kid caught in the middle. Just finished it. I normally don’t waste time with indulgent sportsmen’s autobiographical yarns…. This was well written and worth it.

best era of surfing. i started as a grommet in 1971 at Noosa when i was 7...i can't exactly remember when legropes became a thing...they were only a new invention in the 70s.. the ones i tried used to stretch like buggery and your board would come flyning back at your head. i can remember using a hole drilled into my single fin, a nylon rope and some of old scraps of bedsheet we got from mum , tied around the ankles...better that than getting your board dinged up on the rocks. in 1977 went down the gold coast and saw the Stubbies won by MP... i remember watching these on Tellie with Big Darryl Eastlake on nines Wide World of Sports, with solo man commercials in the ad breaks haha those were days

remember watching WWOS for hours on Sat arvos hoping they'd show some surfing and I'd try and record it on VHS. vividly remember seeing this aired (not the original broadcast) but the replay where big Daz intros it.

This. They’d show 2 second “coming up” teasers before every ad break. 3 hours later we’d finally get to see the full uninterrupted 30secs of footage they had 🤣. I’d be asleep in the beanbag by then, when the four hour morning session, burger, chips, and 600ml moove caught up with me.
